well i know that high corporation tax wouldn't help them, and a lower tax mean less incentive to shovel anything into off-shore tax havens. the problems you highlight are not dependent on corporation tax either way.

the point i'm making is that its standard economic theory that corporation taxes lower investment (why invest here at high tax, when there is low tax?) and the case is usually made for it having a negative impact on employment and salaries (lowers RoI, so other areas of cost are reduced to compensate). we like to tax companies because they have big fat pots of profit easy to tax, and it seems right that they contribute (though apparently not if they dont make a profit), however its not without consequence.

Regardless of the rate of tax, big corporates are very adept of paying no or next to no tax through their lovable tax dodging accountants coming up with wizard schemes.

We already have one of the lowest rates of CT in the developed world.

I wonder if Gove's wife Sarah Vine will still have a column in the Daily Mail at the end of all this or indeed if hubby will get his column in the Times back now he has no hope of influencing anybody?

So May is a total moron then. She's done quite well for a moron.

Do you think that the appointment of BJ (that sounds so much more apt than BoJo -- perhaps we can call him BloJo) as Foreign Secretary is:
-- moronic
-- a stroke of genius: he's so adaptible that he'll become diplomacy personified in the post
-- devious ploy by a non-moronic PM
-- some other explanation

Have visions of Michael Gove having his name on his door, but with the 'v' inverted so it reads 'Michael Gone'

Silver linings & all that.

Can't say I'm disappointed to learn my taxes won't be funding a Cabinet Minister's salary for Gove any more. He'll just have to live on a meagre bog standard backbencher's salary instead. Mind you, it must be about time they voted themselves another pay rise of course.

1. They don't vote themselves pay rises -- like too many of the rich they abdicate responsibility to an independent body for that ...
2. ... but, given the job they do and the amount of hours they put in, I'm not entirely convinced that we should be directing our ire at MPs' pay. My son's head teacher gets paid a fair whack more than them, for instance.

He will screw up and resign in fairly short order (hopefully) never to be heard of again.
Talking of which, does anyone know if as Foreign Secretary he HAS to give up his newspaper column, or if that is discretionary (accepting of course that he has no discretion)?

Well i hope for the complete opposite. Politics need characters like Jonhson and Farage. People seem to appear to be writing Boris off far to early.

Good luck BJ in your new role. Will be watching you closely

The UK now has a Secretary of State for Exiting the EU. When I first (mis)read about that, I thought that Theresa May had appointed a Secretary of State for Exciting the EU.

If she's put BJ in thinking he'll smooth European relations, she's a moron. And recent events have shown us all that morons often get their way ;-)

However I don't think she is a moron, hence my slim suspicion she's up to something.

Boris Johnson turns on David Cameron after PM claims he privately said he's never been a 'Leaver'
The bitter personal row between David Cameron and Boris Johnson intensified last night after the Prime Minster claimed that the former Mayor of London had privately told people he had "never been a leaver".

Mr Johnson insisted that he had "been a eurosceptic for decades" as he dismissed David Cameron's plans for a sovereignty law as a "farce", adding that no one could "credibly claim" that the EU has been successfully reformed.

The clash came after the Prime Minister insisted that he does not weant the EU referendum to turn into a "Tory psycho-drama" between himself, Mr Johnson and Michael Gove, the Justice Secretary.

Oh dear Think you need to do some research

There really wasn't any debate about him switching from remain to leave, he admitted his change of heart himself. Political chancer with no morales whatsoever. Has lied his whole life, as a journalist, a columnist, as a politician.
