it has occured to me that the problems on west coast may be down to higher staff impacts, for any and all of the many reasons. east coast has not been as heavily impacted it seems to i believe there is something specific to west side.

The Victoria to Littlehampton/Hastings train has been effected a lot in the evenings as it gets to Haywards Heath where it splits in two, the Littlehampton part trundles on its way but the Hastings part is cancelled, usually I think because there are only 4 carriages instead of 8 so it cannot split obviously.

OK, so I need to get a train from Shoreham to Newhaven this evening. What are the chances that the services shown as cancelled are the ones that are cancelled?

Having experience of the West Coastway, take with a pinch of salt.

Last week, I checked National Rail and the 1st train after work was showing cancelled. (I work in an office right outside the station and checked 10 minutes before I finished)

I decided to wait at work and browse the web and left 5 minutes before the next train. (23 minutes between trains).

Got to station to find the 1st one ran, albeit late, and the 2nd one was now cancelled so now had a further 20 on top to wait for a train. (This one was then 5 minutes late too).

Can't think that there's very much specific to the Coastway West service that would prevent trains trundling up and down the line between Brighton and Pompey all day every day. Fair enough, there's a huge number of stations between the two, but wouldn't have thought that would have much of an impact other than to make the trains pretty sluggish in getting from A to B. Coastway East branches put together probably have a roughly similar number of stations. In both cases, they are the lifeblood of the communities they are nominally supposed to serve.

You're right, the Brighton/Portsmouth service seems to have been unaffected.

Unfortunately, this skips the stations between Worthing & Ford. West Worthing, Durrington, Goring & Angmering are primarily served by the Littlehampton/Victoria service which does get hit quite a lot.

How often do guards check EVERY DOOR @ EVERY STATION? I've never seen it happen.

Why don't you read the circular again, sit down, and mull over your post.

I've been in touch with the club. Southern have committed to get back to them early next week regarding match day services so we'll hear after that.

Having cancelled 341 trains a day as of next week, I think we can pretty much assume that SASTA's matchday service will be absolutely decimated. No extra trains, just the standard (revised) timetable would be my guess. Chaos looms.

There is a Brighton train leaving Shoreham at 17:34, the next Coastway West service to Brighton is 19:25 from Shoreham.

Good luck.

Thanks. I just managed to get on one earlier than planned. Looks like a long wait at brighton though.

Chaos again tonight.
Saw a young passenger really laying into ticket office staff - although frustrating this poor lady cannot do a thing.

All this disruption over who gets to push a button.

Erm why can't the effing ticket man just make sure he's stood by a door whenever the train pulls up / away? Seriously f***ing gimps have nothing else to worry about.

I don't think anyone could really accuse you of being up to date with current affairs, could they?
