A German friend has just mentioned about people in the debate suggesting 'Britain is the greatest country in the world'.

''Germany experimented with this "ueber alles" concept, and I can wholeheartedly advise that imagined superiority is a shite idea''. :lolol:

Its a free country!
Or is it...?

Absolutely a free country. This is debatable if we remain. I have no problem with your sentiments, but you claim to be not interested but your amount of postings suggest you are. Either way, it has been fun.

For whats it worth, both the BBC News and the Guardian say Leave won it tonight. Although in the Guardian, that will disappear by tomorrow so here it is

What was striking, though, was how Leave has managed to get to the end of the campaign, with expert economic opinion almost unanimous in saying Brexit would harm the economy and no one having the first idea what post-Brexit trading relationships would look like, and this not being a fatal handicap in a debate of this kind. The format helped tonight, because the participants were not subjected to forensic questioning, but somehow Leave have manage to brush aside all the doubts with breezy optimism. It is not a feat that many people could pull off, but Boris Johnson manages it and for him tonight must rank as a success. Gisela Stuart and Andrea Leadsom were fine too. I found the endless mother/grandmother references a bit much, but I suspect for many viewers they were mildly reassuring.

Remain were underpowered on the economy, and struggling on immigration, but if debates of this kind are judged by how people see them on the TV news - and for most people that is how they are judged - then they have probably done better than my early snap summaries imply. Sadiq Khan and Ruth Davidson are veterans of mayoral/Scottish debates, but have never been tested on a prime ministerial platform of this kind, and they both acquitted themselves well. Good speakers use lists to make rhetorical points, and Khan and Davidson came pre-prepared with powerful zingers. It was uncanny to hear Khan sound just like David Cameron at one point, but Cameron is generally an effective communicator and Khan is not precious about lifting a good line. Khan and Davidson also challenged Johnson robustly, although it was noticeable that neither of them tried accusing him of opportunism (perhaps a recognition that the Amber Rudd/Angela Eagle/Nicola Sturgeon attacks like this in the ITV debate failed). Frances O’Grady was less flamboyant, but no less impressive, and tonight she may have done more to improve the reputation of trade unionists than anyone has done for years.

If you won't listen to the entire economics profession perhaps you need to be shaken, not stirred?

That's it give the bond job to someone else. Traitor to his country and cannot be trusted to guard us citizens. Take him to the Tower and finish him off. Disgrace[emoji26]

It probably is deliberate - just one to add to the many, many other deliberate "errors" promulgated by both sides. If you're watching the debate, don't expect facts! And if there are any, they will probably be dismissed as being the voice of "experts".
I think Remain won................ if shouting is a measure of success.

No that's fair comment. But having had personal experience of the Australia and NZ points systems, it's very transparent how they work. Points for English Language ability, points for education attainments, points for professional qualifications, points for work experience etc etc. It's all public information. And it is regularly reviewed and the number of points required to get a visa amended. (Sorry if telling people what they already know).
The points emphasis and weight is altered constantly... that's the beauty of the system.... adjust according to need... and that applies to numbers or indeed career or qualifications.

I've yet to see a creative or sports person that is voting Leave. It's because they tend to get along with different nationalities I guess.
Or could it be that they have pots of cash and make good use of the generous cross border tax offerings?

I put up a few on the other thread, Botham was one, Sol Campbell, Roger Daltery etc. I think you will find many others.

Why are we spending money smoothing the path for Turkey, when remain say it is not going to happen until the year 3000. I don't understand this.

because the EU leaders want Turkey to join and will be aiding them progress their application. they are practically anexed anyway, trade agreement, visa free travel, its membership for practical purposes.
