Ramadan was a blessing whilst I was teaching in Riyadh. The only 4 weeks the classes were sleepy and peaceful.
Many of you stalwarts can moan on about the feasting of Eid ul Fitr (6 July) once Ramadan is over.

Christianity has lent
Islam has Ramadam

Who copied who?

Whereas the ancient Greeks main devotion was to sacrifice all sorts of animals to the gods, leave the entrails, hearts, liver etc as offerings, and to divvi up the rest of the beasts between everyone around. They didn't go in for fasting as they believed that the gods wanted them fit and well to duff up the Persians. See, we have been fighting the Arab nations for 4000 years!

I'm not an athiest, I'm an antithiest. Religion serves no purpose other than to spread hatred and war in the name of whichever made up deity the idiots claim exist.
Churches run by paedos, bombings by fanatics, rapes and wife beatings........not sure that sounds like a good thing to me.
Most conflicts between World War 2 and 1991 were wars of political ideology....

I remember one cafe i went into i asked for a beer with my meal. The waiter asked if i mind if they poured my beer into a coke cup as there was a mosque close by and the Imran gets funny.

That's outrageous. What gives him the right to dictate what you khan do?

most iranians call themselves persians......anyway back on track...australia are currently playing greece in melbourne ....oz fans outnumbered heavily by greek oz fans....this is happening right now ...you wont have to google or youtube it ...but any way ...the greek fans will leave the game and then go back to being Ozzies....this is the way it is with the greeks , italians , spanish......i can't see the same thing happening in sydney if there was a friendly with syria or particularly lebanon.....some of you will take my point and understand it , others will understand it but still argue against it.

I understand what your saying. So what do you want Alfred's Pakistanis to do. Celebrate the cricket and then get down the pub for a few pints and some pork scratchings ?

in what way isnt it? Christmas and Easter Sunday are literally the only days the country stops and the only thing open are some pubs and restrurants, cabbies and an odd Hindu/Muslim run cornershop. its not PC so much as we just dont observe much because we've become more secular.

Not quite the same as changing work hours for weeks & not being able to eat in public as such. Agree with Dazzer's comment below 'we are always the ones that bow to the sensitivities of others.'

rubbish...religion has a place in many people's lives ....vast majority of religious types carry out their day to day lives without any effect on others ...it's the nutty ones you gotta look out for....nutty antithiests are equally worrying.

Religion didn't do those things, people did.

Guns are banned here yet it's the people who do harm with them, not the guns themselves.

I can give my input if you want, as I'm a Muslim that's currently fasting

Sent from popcorn packets for NSC binfests

I understand that Ramadan is in fact a pre Islamic tradition, which has pagan roots developed in India and the Middle East. Muhammad made the mistake of sending some of his fighters out on a raid during Ramadan and they killed some merchants. Many of Muhammads followers were upset that this occured during Ramadan so Muhammad claimed that Allah said it was ok to kill non believers during this time.

Is this true?

Muslims are only OK if they're boxers - I thought that was the rule?
Vote leave.

Don't forget they are OK if they are Albion midfielders too. I am sure our player of the season and face of Islam to us would be pleased at reading this thread.

The underlying current of bigotry from some folk reminds me of the racism in the North Stand last century. Listening to abuse of black players in the opposition teams, and saying it doesn't apply to Codner et al because they are brown.
