When will we learn ? Taking Rashford after a few months of decent football and while he's still a kid is exactly what we done with Walcott . I can't even see him getting a game we should have taken players who have played a full season consistently instead .

Any Wednesday players in there?

Obviously not. They were of course invited to play as themselves (qualification being a foregone conclusion), but they graciously turned it down so as not to embarrass any of the smaller footballing nations like Spain or Germany.

"When will we learn"

We've done it once with Walcott, not really a history of taking really young players - the only other one o can really think of is Owen, which didn't work out to badly.....

It's one squad place, 3/4 of the players won't get a single minute.

Plus Alli and Dier haven't been around I the top flight for much longer, leave them at home as well shall we and see what Lampard and Gerrard at up to?

This is the squad that most people had been calling for - young and attacking.

Yes.

Man U fan?

This.

And this.

Although he's often brilliant in a friendly or against the big boys like San Marino or Luxembourg.

So everyone's arguing to take players based on current form EXCEPT Rooney (have you watched him recently?) Take players who haven't "failed" (yet) at the top level rather than our most experienced player and record goalscorer?

No, I must admit I haven't watched Rooney lately, except for the cup final where he played well. But of course, that was against crystal palace who are similar to San Marino in quality.

Perhaps he will prove the doubters wrong this time and play well in a few matches that actually mean something, I doubt it.

I'd like to say I'd love to be proved wrong but I am so disenchanted with the FA right now, that my small amount of giving a toss has reduced from antipathy to actually wanting them to fail. In that, I suppose I should be glad he's going.

Wow, your world sounds depressing. Why don't you view England as complete underdogs and support them that way you would support the outsiders in a cup final? (Apart from the last one obviously!).

Being an England fan WAS depressing. As I am not much bothered anymore, I am no longer depressed by them. 😁

Its not the same at all.
Walcott was taken along as a tourist to "gain experience" - Sven had absolutely no intention of playing him. It was a ludicrous decision, but I guess this was around the time him and Palios were both balls-deep spitroasting Fire Alarm, or whatever her name was, so his mind was probably elsewhere. Walcott hadn't even played a single Premier League game at that point. He and Crouch were the only 2 fit strikers we took that year, the others (Rooney and Owen) were both recovering from injuries. And Walcott still never played a minute. But that's Sven for you.

Rashford is certainly not being taken as a tourist, he WILL get some gametime in France, of that I'm sure. How much will probably depend on how soon Sturridge pulls up, which will likely be during the warmup next Saturday.

Sturridge is made of Weetabix so when he pulls up on Saturday, I hope we find room for Drinkwater.

In other matters, our defence looks absolute gash. We could get annihalated by a decent team I'm afraid.

The difference is that Alli and Dier have played more or less the whole season and have shown the can perform consistently . I just think we rush our players in too young rather than letting them get to know the international set up through the under 21s and nurturing them . By the time Rashford is 26 he will probably be seen as past it like Walcott / Rooney . We seem to have an obsession with taking the wildcard. Maybe because we all like an underdog

Rashford seems to be one of those kids that you give a chance to and he grasps it with both hands and steps up to the plate with no fear.

We need more of them not less.

I think Rooney would be best played off the bench, for what must be his last major tournament. But Lallana though? Really?

Pele played in (and won) the World Cup when he was 17.

First tournament Rooney has been fit and he is playing well. Him behind Vardy and Kane with Alli pushing forward. We will see the best Rooney and England ever, you heard it her first!

Let's not forget Sturridge was horribly shown up at the last World cup where he was outclassed and any opportunity that did come his way was missed. However, when he does lose a fingernail and pull out, it'll be Townsend in.

However, once Jack gets back on the Charlie (allegedly), Drinkwater will be back
