It does work though doesn't it . As the fairy said , to much hostility , the club can't take fans for granted because once they stop going they get out of the habit . It proves , that after your good start , you are not getting full houses and your st waiting list seems to have dissapeared .

I wonder if that had anything to do with adding 7,500 seats?

This season is the first drop in season ticket holders since the Amex opened. Coincidentally after one of the most dire seasons for football in 6 or so years or more. Even so, ST's still represent 70% of the capacity.

There can be (and still might be) a waiting list for one or both of two reasons...

1. The club only sell season tickets at certain times.
2. People may only want a season ticket in a certain area, the family stand for example, so they may need to wait until places become available.

And when you live in Preston, Brighton in October is pretty much a Summer holiday.

i think midweek games are a struggle with the current transport situation. If you don't live in the city you're basically getting home at ridiculous o'clock unless you leave considerably early which to some people isn't an attractive prospect

I don't know about that. I used to live in London and get the train back from Goldstone/Priestfield/Withdean - there were large numbers of Albion fans travelling back that way - it was standing room only till HH so we're not talking about a few dozen people here

I guess there's an argument that it was easier to get to and from any of those grounds by public transport than it currently is from Falmer, unfortunately. And the numbers were generally far smaller.

Even from within Brighton, it can be a bit of a drag: from Preston Park I missed kick-off on Tuesday despite leaving about an hour beforehand: lack of buses, then bad traffic, full P&R etc etc.

I've also previously stood at London Road station about 30 minutes before kick-off, staring at near-empty trains going towards Lewes from Brighton but not stopping. I'm sure some klutz somewhere might have a good reason for that, they often do. But I honestly don't care; if that's not provocation to want to chew your own arm off at the ridiculousness of having the rail capacity when it's needed but choosing not to make full use of it, I don't know what is.

I bought a ticket for my Father in law to come along on Saturday. I've got the PDF email of the ticket, but my printer is f'd! Can I just zoom in on the barcode on my iPhone and scan that at the turnstile? Or do I have to find someone that has a printer that works, or worse have to collect a paper ticket from the office before the game?

As I pointed out in the Trains Tonite thread, why should Southern care? They can send as many empty trains as they like; they have no responsibility to fans as they get paid whether a train has zero or 500 fans on it.

That's the real problem, if the train company was losing revenue, you can bet the service would be better but we have this mad system where trains aren't publicly owned (with a duty to serve the common good) but are not in competitive market where they have to offer a better service than their rivals. They're given a wedge of cash and don't have to do anything for it, and nothing is going to change while that's the case

answer to the original question - Give tickets to local schools and businesses; no brainer for me as costs nothing but could be food/drink revenue. Fill it, and create a future fanbase.

In answer to Bozza's questions - I didn't see my arsenal season ticket holder mates in 2011 in H block in the cold. But don't let it stop the pride, it's a good time to be a Seagull.

Why not give free tickets to Albion fans?....First 3000 who call
You won't get big crowds this time of the season unless you're a derby etc who have dirt cheap st prices and £10 tickets.
Crowds will pick up in the 2nd part of the season as its a marathon not a sprint and being top at this time isn't really something you take seriously for some.
Crowds are down at most clubs,so getting 24/25k is fantastic

Have you been to Preston? Its a bit like a northern Croydon! Brighton in October is like Las Vegas at spring break for those northern monkeys.

Not sure i buy the logistics arguement most grounds are a nightmare as 20K + leaving a venue at the same time inevitably means queues and delays.

It was like this for at least another mile, and I'd wager that it's quicker to get away from the Amex on the P+R even if you have to wait for the second tranche of buses. And I can't think of another stadium in the country where it's easier to get away on a train - I usually get back to Brighton station at about 5-20 after a Saturday game (staying until the final whistle).

Anyway, still looks less of a traffic jam than getting out of B'muff's car park (despite the tiny crowd), our trains are way better than Brentford (despite the tiny crowd) and easier than Fulham despite it being central London etc etc...........I don't do as many away games as I'd like but struggling to think of one where the travel looks easier........
