It is, of course, too early to pass judgement but there are positive signs. I think the pace at which we are playing (and passing) is the key improvement. It has allowed us to create many more chances and take a lot more shots.

In terms of strength in depth, there is some decent evidence that we are much improved in that regard:

1. We have 2 senior or very promising players for every position.
2. Lat night's bench was: Maenpaa; Zamora; Ince; Manu; Dunk; JFC; Rosenior. That is a strong and experienced bench.
3. The reserve who came into the side last night won MoM.

To the OP, I am genuinely interested in how Palace fans have perceived the pros and cons of the EPL - ticket prices (home and away); TV match time shifts; less games etc. etc.

I think that's debatable. I mean if Kayal or Stephens was injured, do you really believe that Ince and JFC and provide the same sort of creativity? Ince at the moment is being brought on to provide defensive cover when we are winning, and that is probably where he is best suited.

In terms of Zamora, he has never been the most pacey of strikers and I see him more as cover for Hemed than Baldock.

If one of the centre midfielders has to miss a game, I'd imagine Ince would come in and the midfield would have slightly more rigid roles compared to now

just being a realist, as the Palace bod said you can see it all without going to the game these days .

A realist about what exactly? Everyone knows things will be different if we ever get promoted and everyone knows you hate everything and anything to do with 'modern football', I'm not really sure what you're trying to prove with your constant cynicism.

Er, one of us is having memory failure. I hope it's you, because if it's me, then I've made up a bunch of goals I thought he'd scored.

I agree on who he's cover for though, as he's not fast now.

The interesting thing is, we didn't actually lose a huge number of our games last season compared to other sides in the relegation scrap. Our defence was actually one of the strongest: I think we were a top half side in terms of goals conceded?

So it's not as though we've had to go from losing every game to winning them, which is a big step. We've gone from drawing them to winning them in the (very short) period of the season played so far. You only need a single goal per game to make that happen. So long as we've got goals in the side, which, touch wood, we seem to have added, without necessarily smashing any opponent yet, there is a reason for optimism.

And no, I certainly don't imagine this sort of form will last, so I for one am going to enjoy it while it's happening. Promotion? Far, far too soon for me to be thinking in those terms. There are lots of strong as well as rich sides in the Championship. But nobody can knock what we've done so far.

I think most people are avoiding getting too excited, as that can lead to terrible heartache.

This is my stance.

We're doing very well now compared to where we were this time last season but it is very early days. I am, naturally, very happy with where we are, how we're playing, players that have yet to play etc. but mid-September is not the time to get all cocksure.

Now, if we're still where we are or thereabouts, still playing well and the players we've yet to see turn out to be blinders in say mid-March I'll be needing new pants quicker than they can be made.

Absolutely. To be fair, he did always have that weird style of running that made him look like he was walking when he was actually steaming along.
