Is anybody going or no much about the band Outfit that are playing the Hope & Ruin Wednesday night? Reading up about them they have been likened to Cut Copy & Hot Chip so I might pop along if I get the chance.

Tickets booked for Deerhunter & Destroyer on successive nights late October at All Saints Church & The Haunt respectively.

I seriously thought about going, as it's local, and we want to take our eight-year-old to festivals (he's got a cracking taste in music), so it seemed like an ideal opportunity to trial it, but it was just too expensive, and I wasn't over-enamoured with the line-up.

Is a poor line up. But paid for my ticket thinking it would improve. No disrespect to Brakes who I am very fond of but the fact that they are headlining stage 2 ( of 2) is a bit of a suprise. Just about to leave now in time for Billy Bragg.

On at 5.30 I think. Brakes at 8.00 and SFA at 8.45. That's the plan and home in time for MOTD - if its on that is.

Which was a reasonable assumption if you attended drill or went to any of their sea monsters events.

It looks like they subcontracted the local stuff to BIMM for no budget.

He's wrong. They were, as always, magnificent. I was leaning on the barriers at the front, which was very nice.

Only problem, in my eyes, was that they were limited to an hour and a half - an hour shorter than their Brixton set earlier this year.

Billy Bragg was great to see, for the first time in years. He spoke brilliantly, and for once, I'd have preferred even more of this, as I find his songs quite dull at times.

Ghostpoet would suit a darkened club more, it was too sunny, and too quiet.

I'm not a Levellers fan, but they were unobjectionable enough tonight. A first for me.

Lovely event, though, with potential to improve if they get the line up right next year. I even went on one of the fairground rides!

Apparently 3500 tickets sold, with a 5000 capacity. So it felt like quite a big crowd around the stage, but loo queues were quick and it was easy to get a beer!

The crowd was as you'd expect at a festival, but with quite a few more kids than was entirely necessary.

I'm worried about the attendance tomorrow. Virtually everyone I know got Saturday day tickets - tomorrows line up looks particularly uninspiring.

Each to his own. I thought SFA sounded under-rehearsed and ponderous and the sound quality muddy. People were leaving the set in droves.

Agree about some of the rest though - Ghost Poet was excellent, Billy Bragg powerful (though everything he played was familiar) and his political rants were spot on, and the Levellers were their usual selves - a feel good festival band. Only disappointment (for me, and by the looks of it, a fair few others) was the boring Welsh bunch.

Well I enjoyed the day. Saw a couple BIMM bands, was pleasantly surprised by Lucy Spraggan who was very entertaining. Bragg was superb, the Levs excellent as always, Brakes were a hoot and I enjoyed SFA. As for the attendance, atmosphere was pleasant. Surely the best choice of food at a festival of this size as well. Thought the bar staff were excellent, but the craft bar was too small and if I am going to nit pick £5 for a 3.9 Laines Republic (lovely pint) was a bit much.

I'll be going along today for a more relaxing time. Hope the event has done well enough to justify a return next year it has potential. There are some lessons to learn for the organisers, but I think this could become a welcome addition to the city's musical calendar.

I doubt it. But they might not be necessarily expecting to turn a profit for the first few years. [MENTION=14921]spring hall convert[/MENTION] seems well connected to the local scene, do you know who is financially backing this and what are their longer term plans?

I hope it continues as Brighton needs a festival.

We arrived at 5.30 just in time to hear most of Billy Braggs set. As always he had plenty to say- the majority of which went down well with the crowd. After that time for a wander and some decent beer in a tent which doubled up as a dance area and Pop Up Resident shop. Five pounds for a tray of fries topped with spring onions, cheese and spicy sauce and it was time to see Brakes who were brilliant and the best part of the evening. Only 45 mins but they chose a good selection of material and such nice blokes. Then it was time for SFA. The sound to me was not quite right and we were in the middle section. Later on we went to the very back where there was an improvement! Have seen them before and have heard good reviews of their latest shows but this seemed to lack life and the crowd were not really involved. Probably too many disinterested kids dragged along by their parents. Picked up a bit with Golden Retriver but then I guess that was a 'hit' and recognisable to many. Overall I hope the event takes place next year but tickets won't sell unless the line up improves. Oh and it was bloody cold as totally unprepared and foolishly thought it was still summer.

Perhaps you needed to be at the front, where the atmosphere was great - the crowd very much involved - and looking round, this seemed to go back a fair way.

Did look more 'involved' at the front- but there was no way of pushing through as we wanted to watch all of Brakes. Glad you had a better experience though. A few more better songs would have helped for a festival appearance.

Really enjoyed Together The People this weekend. For me the line-up was good on saturday. Sunday was very thin as expected but the sunshine mad it an enjoyable day. Saw more good acts on the BIMM stage particularly impressed with Frankie Furlow, had a good old boogie to Public Service Broadcasting and really enjoyed Martha Reeves.

If the organisers can get stronger headliners then they could have a cracking little event on their hands. Whilst I personally had a great time, there are definitely lessons to be learned by the organisers, I hope they learn quickly and give Brighton a decent outdoor music event to match the likes of The Great Escape and Mammothfest on the indoor circuit.
