Dunk - Refusing to play?

It would seem clear to me that we wouldn't have signed Uwe if either Dunk or Greer weren't going anywhere! Greer is certainly not going anywhere and I can't see him being dropped, therefore it looks clear to me that, especially after Saturday, Dunk is off. His head has probably be turned by a lot more money and who could blame him if that's the case. Some posters seem to think the players have the same loyalty to the club as us fans but they don't! Playing football is there job and therefore they will go wherever for higher wages (as would most of us).

I don't agree with the first bit: Last year we had Greer, Dunk, Hughes and Halford. Two of those left this summer, so even if Rea is seen as a replacement for one, it still left is short of an experienced centre back.

The second part of what you've written is spot on. Most of us would switch jobs for a 10-20% rise, never mind the supposed 300% being offered!

Selling Barnes, with only 4-5 months left on his contract, didn't exactly come back to haunt us either. Ulloa and Lingard were probably a better combo than Barnes and Ulloa.

That move worked out well for him, it worked out badly for us as without his goals and industry we almost got relegated. We were doing OK with Barnes in the team even before we signed Ulloa.

Which posters suggested otherwise?

We finished 6th. Unless you're talking about the following season, when Barnes wouldn't have been with us anyway, as he was out of contract.

Without him we reached the playoffs, having not been in the top 6 all season until about April. And after that he would have left on a free to newly promoted Burnley, so we would have still struggled last year.

It didn't feel like being dumped by a girlfriend with Bridcutt either. Maybe you are a sensitive type :)

I can't afford to be sensitive, I'm an accountant!

I do think that the last 2 weeks of the window is a surreal time in football. I like Dunk, I like Hughton and I like Andy Nayor but I didn't believe Dunk with his little speech about looking forward to a good season with the Albion when getting the MOM vs Forest, I didn't believe Hughton when he said he'd rested Dunk vs Fulham and I didn't believe Naylor when he says Hunemeier was a replacement for Hughes. It's the lying I can't take. Maybe I am sensitive?!

Is it possible:

Tuesday Morning:

Hughton: so..
Dunk: so?
Hughton: Seems to be a bit of a fuss over your career
Dunk: Yeah
Hughton: I don't know where you're going to be September 2nd - I hope it's with us - but if you are going to move on, we might get a better deal if you're not cup tied, there might be more clubs vying for you and offering you more money to get you
Dunk: yeah
Hughton: and it is Southend... Do you fancy sitting it out, it also gives me a chance to give Rea a look
Dunk: Yeah, alright. Seems a sensible option all round.

When passed through several people, or passed on with a cynical view: Dunk refused to play!!!!!

Saturday

Hughton: Hey Dunky
Dunk: Yeah
Hughton: I've decided to put you on the bench for this one. I wanna see what Uwe has to offer, and as one of the clubs in for you are Fulham it might not be ideal for you to play. But you're still in my plans. I still want you in my team.
Dunk: I won't say I'm not disappointed, cos I want to play, but I understand your reasoning and appreciate you taking me aside and telling me. Whatever is best for the team.

Cynics: He missed two games, this confirms he refused on tuesday!!

I mean it worked out badly that we got rid of a good player, couldn't replace him and fell down the table as a result the following year. I know we still managed to reach the play-offs that season but only just - we were 6th when Ash left - and goals were very hard to come by under Oscar in that period.

If Dunk does leave then we have to replace him with real quality - I maintain we'll struggle to get more than 35-40 games out of Greer this season, never mind the 50-odd he might be called upon to play in.

After his poor display last night against Liverpool is the writing on the wall for Elphick and perhaps we should coinsider a bid to bring him back if Dunk goes.

I suspect that, actually, you do.
Wind. Up. Merchant.

Not a wind up as the general consensus of opinion was that last night he hada poor game and was /torn a new one. by Benteke and I stated some time ago that he would not be good enough for the Premier so would expect that to happen most games.. If Dunk goes he would be an ideal replacement in this division so perhaps CH should loook at a bid £2 -3m I would think would seal it. He would then replace Greer and allow him to do the job Hughes did last season.

He didn't. He wasn't. He could easily have scored the winning goal.
Liverpool were awful.

Though you of course do know this and I've no idea why I'm typing it.

With Howe giving most of the team that got promoted to the Premier League a chance to establish themselves this season, do you honestly think that Bournemouth would then go and sell us their CAPTAIN for £2-3m ? And do you think that having just got to the PL, Elphick would want to be back in the Championship with us after a couple of games ?

How much do you think we'd have to pay Elphick for him to come here? A fair bit more than we pay Dunk I imagine. So we end up with a player that's not as good as Dunk, is older, and has higher wages. No thanks.

I can't find any league tables for January 2014, but we definitely weren't sixth when Barnes left - from memory, we got into the top six for the first time that year after our consecutive wins against Leicester and Charton.

As for replacing Dunk. I'm confident that we'll be able to do that for a lot less than 5m, and have change to spend on exciting attacking signing, like Tex or Marshall.

Brighton - In your face
If Murphy replaces Solly in the starting lineup tonight, I look forward to the 'Solly March - Refusing to play?' thread.

Yep, because that's exactly the same thing.

Depends how you want to look at it.
As far as I'm seen the only FACT of this 67 page bilge is Dunk was dropped to the bench on Saturday for the new signing. He also didn't play in the weakened squad the previous Tuesday which somehow warranted this thread.
Any more actual FACTS I'm missing here?
