All depends, if he was to get some sort of incentive/pay off to leave Newcastel really i would guess, that would make championship wages ok.
And the thought of regular game time.
If Newcastle are interested in Dunk I think we may well enquire about Williamson.

If he's on £40K at Newcastle, he would likely earn the same in four years here, not less. Besides, if he just sits out his contract at Newcastle and doesn't play he could be on £zero this time next year.

The average wage for a player in The Championship is over 10k a week. I would take an educated guess that a player stepping down from the Premier League would be able to command something above that. So assuming the 40k a week Williamson is on is true (and if he does move he will come to an agreement with Newcastle over the remainder of his contract), he will be taking a pay cut but certainly nowhere near enough to mean he'd be earning more in 1 season there than 4 seasons here.
As i previously said he's out of contract at the end of the season, if he knows he's unlikely to get a contract at Newcastle next season he'd be wise to move now and secure a 2,3 or 4 year deal somewhere else rather than battling it out with all the other free agents in the summer.

I think the unfortunate fact of life is that only the better Championship players are on £10K a week*. Buckley in the PL is on £15K a week and the wages would be a barrier even to sign him. Buckley might be in a position to take a pay cut with promotion (and appearance) bonuses for regular first team football? (*exceptions for relegated PL players).
A real pity as Williamson would be ideal. I wonder of we could afford to pay him £20K a week? Only ideal if we kept Dunk as well as it would be a gamble on promotion or a Play-off Final.

I would love Jonas here, he'd be the perfect person to play in away games. The pace and attacking flair of Lualua and March at home and the technical skill and defensive work of Jonas away. It makes so much sense.

Just remembered Hughton took him on loan at Norwich as well as managing him at Newcastle. Would be surprised if he hasn't been touted by the manager. Wages might be an issue.

Unsure. I think I vie for the lower scale of things for good or bad. Good because rival Championship clubs will not pay the wages for the likes of Lewis Dunk that he would expect to get at a PL side. Bad because even the run of mill PL experienced reserves are on too high a whack to drop down a division. Younger players are within budget though.
A PL club may be playing a younger player in their reserves at £10K a week for 3 years say Tex at £1.5 m + £1 Liverpool paid for him, so they could break even of they sold him for £2.5 million.
Sunderland were being clever/stingy in getting Buckley on £15K a week (+ bonuses -40% relegation clause). Just enough to make him jump ship.
I may be a bit out of date but in 2011-12 Championship wages averaged under £5K a week, before FFP.
It was reported that Leeds (comparable to the Albion wages wise) highest earner was on £10K a week. I would not be surprised if our wage bill for players was much different?

He's not earning anything at the moment, so unless he is struggling under the weight of other offers, they should not be.

The wage disparity is just too much. A real pity as we have been crying out for some speed in defence. To my mind it is the rest of the Newcastle team that make him look bad at times. As I said before, he looks the ideal player. He has the build and style of Lawrenson.
I would prefer us to keep Dunk because he is younger, looking good now, and if by any chance we got promoted, we would need both. Dunk needs a good season before he could command Newcastle wages. I think Newcastle are trying to shift their high earners and I would not touch any of them bar Williamson. Good job we didn't sign Sammy Ameobi.
