PS: The BBC did not "drop" the Football League Show. They were either outbid or could no longer afford the rights to the programme demanded by the Football League. The licence fee has been frozen since 2010 and the BBC has to pay for extra services like the World Service, rural broadband and local TV out of the £147.50 a year which means it has to be make difficult choices about what it does. And that includes paying for Steve Claridge. .

Oh do behave, The BBC seems to find infinite funds to show people baking CAKES. And now Clarkson is off the payroll, you'd think they'd have something left in the kitty to continue covering the FL.
Sports quite clearly isn't on the BBC's agenda any more though - witness their pitiful coverage of the Open, and every other pissing event they've dropped from their sporting schedule so we can have more karaoke, ballroom dancing, ice skating and people making dinner.

Well they did drop it in the sense they made a choice not to put their resources into it any more. Yes, the licence fee has been frozen but they could have chosen to keep spending on the FL show if they'd wanted to. But they'd have had to stop paying money for something else. Like Alan Yentob for instance.

They did. The BBC put in a bid which they say was competitive. But the Football League wanted more money and a different show so went with someone else.

.

Not sure how the BBC can get the blame for a show they no longer make or for a show the Football League no longer wanted them to make but fair enough. Anyway The BBC did bid for the Football League rights again but the FL decided they preferred the bid from C5 .

Don't know why everyone talks about the old BBC version being on late! Indeed it was but there are so many ways to watch these days...recording,i player etc. Used to enjoy watching on a leisurely Sunday morning. Now we have this pile of nonsense... I won't be watching it which is a shame.

They get the blame because they had the rights, but then didn't deem it worth bidding enough of OUR money to keep the rights. Meaning we are now lumbered with this rancid, stinking pile of DRECK on Channel 5 for the foreseeable.

I like the BBC. I use the BBC a heck of a lot, be it internet, radio, podcasts, documentaries. I have never begrudged paying my licence fee, because on the whole I think they deliver an excellent service. And on the increasingly rare occasions when they actually bother to cover sports, they usually do it extremely well. But I am mightily miffed at them binning off the FLS and letting it fall into the hands of imbeciles who would not know how to produce a football highlights show if they had a great big step-by-step Ladybird book called "This Is How to Produce a Football Highlights Show".

Not really read a the other threads about this, scanned a few pages, in my opinion the whole show was woeful, hopefully it will get better, also, and I'm not wishing to be controversial, but I thought Adam Virgo was as bad as the rest of the show, virtually every comment he made started with "yes as you say" or very similar, even though no one else had commented at that time! Still I'm sure he will improve with experience.

Nope you're right. Virgo was actually inane, his "analysis" was meaningless twaddle. Bradford go 1 up at Swindon but lose 4-1. They're standing there with their iPads watching the goals.

Nonentity: "That was a brilliant start for them Adam, so what happened ?"
Virgo: "Well, as you say, they allowed themselves too much time to get into it."

Err....what ?

I have *some* sympathy in that they're throwing together the goals from about 36 games, and going on air at 9pm. But honestly, its got to get better than this. Its NOT analysis. They're literally just describing exactly what we can all see happening ("he's steered it into the far corner, he's done really well there"), or failing that, just basically struggling to come up with something to say. Its on the hoof, and its abysmal.

I notice they have some kind of air raid siren going off in their opening title tune. Quite apt, because this show absolutely BOMBED.

Just finishing off this bottle of red spence, then I'm off.

It'd be rude not to.

Im glad I was not the only one to notice, I know Virgo is home grown and what he did for us on the pitch was awesome, and I know he wants to get into the media side of things now his playing career is over, but if he is not careful this so called show will not be the vehicle to boost his future in that department! And "as you say" (see what I did there ) meaningless twaddle will not be a popular option for the 46 regular viewers in the future.

It wasn't great but hopefully they'll learn their lessons and simplify it next week. The ideal scenario would have been BBC keeping the rights but getting rid of Manish and Claridge, who were both dreadful.

Virgo wasn't any worse than the rest of the rubbish served up by this abysmal effort.

I lasted half an hour and thats the only 30 minutes they'll ever get from me

Turned off after the Sheffield games, and the embarrassing "chat" with the Sheff Utd fan about their away top. Cringeworthy television. All rather predictable as soon as it was announced Channel 5 were doing it.

Personally I never saw anything wrong with the BBC show. Manish was fine, and though Claridge was a bit cr*p he wasn't as awful as this pathetic attempt

Who'd have thought you could lower the standards of football production when you consider Garth Crooks, Andy Townsend and Robbie Savage have been employed for years.

That's seriously impressive. Well done Channel 5.

I quite liked the non-linear format, but I'll recording and FFing to our game most of the time so it'll make that less convenient.

Possibly the worst football program I have ever watched. Bad format, bad presenters. Couldn't make it to the end. Truth is the comments about the show on this board are far more entertaining than the show.

I thought that it was awful. FWIW I liked the BBC format and preferred Leroy Rosenior to Steve Claridge but perhaps Channel 5 will listen to the critics and revamp it. Perhaps it needs people to contact them to give a view.
