Anyone reading this thread could be easily convinced all our ills from last season stem from not having an immobile lump 'up top' who could 'bully' centre halfs, with a bit of Premier League class.

He'd be great for the club and I'm sure the dressing room.
But I'd be lying if I said 'at no point did that comparison, fleetingly, cross my mind'.

The thing is whether we like it or not, Hughton is going to play with one person up top for the majority of the season. So a target man who will hold on to the ball, bring others in to play and will chip in 10-15 goals is exactly what we need. Zamora is going to put in 1,000,000 times more effort than Best and is twice the player ability wise than COG is. Admittedly he'll probably cost 3 times as much in wages, but the extra merchandise and seat sales he'll account for will more than make-up for the extra wages.
I think a lot few people on here are writing him off simply so they can say "I told you so" if he doesn't work out. He'd be a good player at this level, even before you throw in the nostalgia factor. And 'cmmon, tell me Zamora knocking the ball past a keeper in front of the North Stand doesn't sound like the best thing ever?

Signing BZ can't be called good or bad business until the window is closed.
Half a dozen signings like the Iranian chap + BZ will send me banzi.
But BUT signings like Gillingham chap because a lot of money has gone on a vanity project will blow up by October.

It's a case of the new modern day football fan being more interested in a big name(past it)more than what goes on the pitch.
Injured to much and doesn't score enough....Time the club pulled their finger out and focused on young talented players with some zip as slow boring football is old news and it seems you'll never get out of this league with 1 goal a game.
I rarely get excited by a player's name or history. The potential of Zamora signing hasn't changed that, I doubt him officially signing would either. I will judge him by what he produces when he plays, not on who he is.
I don't know if that general philosophy is responsible for this thought, but, will he really mean that much? The people who were fans when he was with us largely already have their season tickets. If they are the sort to buy a shirt, they will do regardless. Is the number of people out there who haven't got a ticket, but will buy one for Bobby, or who weren't going to buy a shirt, but will do now they can put Bobby's name on it really that significant?

One of our major failings last year was having someone up front who could hold the ball up.
Like it or not , we'll be playing one up front., and Bobby, when fit, would be perfect. Then two from Baldock, Colunga, Kaz and Solly. Add in the Iranian too maybe.
Last season was poor, really poor, and the fans need a lift. I know I do.

Not sure I totally agree. O'Grady may be slow and poor in front of goal but his actual hold up play was very good. We need runners from midfield to get beyond the front man and once the hold up player has laid it off he needs to able to get in the box and finish every now and then. Having said that, clearly BZ would be a far better bet than O'Grady.

Sadly in the current climate, he's probably already earning £1,000 a week, and the Albion couldn't afford him as he has to cover the costs of his entourage.
