Smug though you may be about that - my concern centres around the fact that we could be in a position that a party that a vast majority of the electorate can't vote for holds the balance of power. It's a corruption of democracy and I would be equally appalled if the Tories went into collation with say the DUP.

It's because David Cameron is a liability to his party. Every time he opens lying bs mouth. no-one bloody believes him. The Tory Party knows it, Dodgy Dave knows it. That's why they/he didn't want to TV debate. I think he would have preferred to **********....
The polls show he is more popular than his party, but polls eh!
Oh come Herr ... you strike me as an intelligent refined guy .... even you must know you can only vote for a party. As a voter how do I prevent the Tories teaming up with say the DUP or the Lib Dems or indeed Labour teaming up with the SNP or the Greens .... please explain EXACTLY how I vote to prevent any of these happenings ?

I don't believe any of them, Con, Lib or Lab, they have let everyone down, but worst of all it was Labour that ruined it for me. That's one vote they lost from me and millions of other people. Only UKIP will be getting my vote.

I hear and understand you, but I agree with other commentators like Ian Hislop. And his view is that we the voters provide parliament with the mix of MPs we want. If we want a party to have a majority then this will be reflected in the number of MPs voted in. If we don't, then we have to trust the MPs we have elected to sort something out for the greater good with the mix we returned, FPTP or PR it will the same if there's no majority. Anyone can stand, everyone over 18 can vote. Individually we might not get what we want but as a nation we do within the confines of democracy. I actually think we will have a minority government with a confidence and supply from other parties. I think this is quite fair and a reasonably accurate reflection of what the nation wants.

If you think the Snp holding balance of power is a good thing you really are a fool. Sturgeon really is the epitome of a swivel eyed nasty little nationalist. She and her party will be the ruination of England and ' them down in westminster'. What annoys me is that Snp will get all this power and the Vast majority of the electorate can do nothing about it.

As I (rather bluntly) said to Withdean, if this is such a big issue then the UK will vote against it.
I personally don't think they'll have as much power as you clearly feel should there not be a majority. But, if they return 40-50 seats then surely it's only fair they're entitled to some say in how things are run? And I'm sure this say will be broadly commensurate with the number of seats they secure.
It's the same for me and Cons and UKIP. This might happen but I'll just have to accept it

i dont know how familar you are with voting systems, you vote for a candidate or party, not against a candidate or party. the whole point around the SNP is they will have a power beyond the number of MPs, potentially dictating policy for the rest of UK, while being insulated from many of the consequences of thoes policies.
Scotland, NI and Wales have their own parliaments and assemblies, England does not. None of the English MP's can vote on any issues of these countries.
Do you not think that if the SNP get to influence the seats in the general election, then it could be detrimental to issues in England, and beneficial to issues in Scotland.
