He will be disappointed because he has played brilliantly and then been beaten by a bloody fluke...!!!

Too right. I played in goal up to Sussex County League standard (albeit for one game).
Stocko would be disappointed with his positioning with that goal.
When I played, I always took my position (in the case of the Wolves goal) slightly out from the near post, but always within touching distance of it.

With all due respect, HKFC and I would both say you are wrong. His initial position was fine. The next bit of "information" that he got was that the Wolves player was crossing. His anticipation of that, and the consequent priming of his body to move in that direction, was also fine. He got beaten by a fluke.

A Charles Charlie-Charles era goalkeeper touching his near post in that situation would be a laughing stock in professional goalkeeping circles.

Have to disagree.
Seeing a keeper further away from the near post could give the player an idea to go for a shot at the gap. It's happened before.
I didn't say I was touching the post, I said I was within touching distance of it.
I never conceded a goal (as far as I can remember) from a shot or mishit cross in that situation.

That is not true I think that he was initially poor but have said that he has improved tremendously so much so that the difference between the points he has lost us early season to those that he has gained recently is very little and could even be on the points gained side. My point was a generalisation of the possibility for any keeper at any level not aimed at DS or any other particular keeper.

It looked bad of course, but for my money it really was just a complete fluke that could not have been anticipated by any keeper. The Wolves player shaped for the cross and that's exactly what he attempted to carry out, there was no hint of a plausible attempt on goal from there. He totally sliced it and the accidental swerve he got on it took it inside the near post - 99 times out of a hundred that flies into the stand for a goal kick. Stockdale was correctly positioned for the cross, given the attackers position there was no need to hover by the near post. Given those exact same set of circumstances again, I wouldn't expect him to either.

It was a freak goal, a total fluke. It happens occasionally.

I think Stockdale is ok, he does make the odd mistake, but its usually followed by a couple of world class saves that keep us in games.

Here's my problem with the Stockdale bashing - I can only remember off the top of my head, 3 definite glaring errors he's made. Yet many talk about him being "consistently poor" or "costing us points" over and over. He was beaten by a flukey shanked cross v Wolves - he'll be disappointed because he managed to get hands to it, but his starting position was fine. Any nearer to his post and he can't intercept the cross, resulting in a tap-in and him being lambasted for not commanding his area properly.

The roll out v Reading (?) and unnecessary coming out for crosses (Cardiff and I think Rotherham??) are the only ones that he can be fully blamed for imo. He is in credit by a long, long distance.

Not sure why he comes in for such criticism there have been countless examples where he has made saves that I still don't know how he got to the ball to keep it out. These saves have in some games been the difference between the way the game went and could have gone.

For me he is getting stronger with each week and looks a completely different prospect from when he arrived when he was clearly lacking competitive game time

A tap-in from who? There was only one Wolves player in the box as the ball was "crossed", and he was in no position for a tap-in.
The next nearest Wolves player was 5 yds outside the box.

Dis regarding him as a person I think that he is one of the best left midfielders playing in the FL and has earned a lot of money from it so some managers must agree.
