Interesting idea from Salmond today that in order for the UK to withdraw from the EU it would need separate referendums in England, Scotland and Wales, and the 'tripple lock' of consensus in all 3.

Well who else do you vote for if you are left-minded? There are no other options.

Obviously i dont know where you live but In the 2010 elections if left leaning was your thing you could have voted Socialist Labour in the Pavillion ward or Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition in Kemptown.The options are there for everyone. Hopefully more than normal people will take the time to find out who is standing this election, opposed to turning up looking at the list and saying "who is that"(something we are all guilty of)

I dont know what the full ballot list is for these areas yet,April 9th is the deadline for applications.Stick to your guns and vote with your conscience, dont believe party propaganda or individuals telling you lies that a vote for one party means a victory for another. These are just planks who are unable or unwilling to justify their own party policies.

I've had leaflets from Lib Dem and UKIP through the door and both are objectionable people and offering nothing to the regeneration of where I live. They are simply opposed to a lot of what is happening so will need to see if anyone actually listens to what local people want and commit it to print or come and knock on my door and then do something about it. My local pub is now a Morrisons - supposedly both parties 'were opposed' to it but it's still a sodding Morrisons and it's opposite our local Newsagents who'll now probably go out of business as well. It is incredibly irritating, I don't want to hear about what the other did or didn't do, I wan't to know what YOU are going to do. It's the kind of behaviour you expect in a school playground.

Another issue for me is that I'm not exactly in a key demographic. I'm a single, youngish professional earning a pretty good salary, no party is going to bend over backwards coming up with policies to drastically improve my life.

I'm pretty cynical about the whole politics thing - politicians seem more concerned with their own job. So when Party A puts across all it's policies, how often does Party B say 'Ooh yes that's a good idea'? Never. They will disagree with everything regardless, and forget the actual real aim - to do what's best for the country.

That said, I will vote for Dave - I just can't picture Ed in No 10....

Seems to me that every politican's sole aim is simply to be re-elected so they can stay in office. They have no interest in you or the country.

I firmly believe voting should be made compulsory by law, like it is in Belgium and other places.

But... There should be a "None of the above" box to tick. And it that gets most votes they have to ditch all the original candidates and find new ones, until one of them comes out and says something sensible and worth supporting.

I think the Libs had to form a coalition with someone, we needed a government that could get on and do stuff, a minority government would have seen us deeper in the shit than we were. I think they also knew it would be damaging for their party but in the best interests of the country, so I respect the decision.
We had a chance to bring in the Alternative Vote system because the Libs were in coalition, the referendum returned a No, but if it had gone through you would not have had to waste your vote to vote Labour, you could still have had your Labour vote 1st and put other parties candidates 2nd, 3rd etc. to ensure your vote would count in some way even if the Labour guy was well out of the race.
Compromises have been made by both parties to form what was a much needed majority Government. Power sharing and consensus politics has always been a liberal principle, so I don't see forming a coalition with the Cons as dropping their principles for the sake of power, it was what the country needed and they got some of their manifesto put through.

You can see that, I can see that, why can't most of the electorate see that? Almost everything you hear about why people won't vote Lib Dem is because of the compromises they had to make as a result of going into coalition, and very little is about their policies. I'm especially surprised by the number of voters who have rejected Labour but have switched their alliance to the Green Party, as the Lib Dems are left of centre on a number of topics, especially taxation.

Two years into the recession in tax year 2010/11 Labour still had the Higher Rate tax threshold at £43,875, the Lib Dems come into and reduce it down to £41,450. So even though the Tories say we're back to pre-recession levels this is contradicted by the fact the Higher Rate threshold is still below 2010/11 level AND - according to the coalition Budget of last week - won't exceed the 2010/11 level until 2017/18.

There is no doubt in my mind that had the Lib Dems not been in government the Tories would have raised the Higher Rate to above £43,875 for 2015/16.

Caroline Lucas is my MP and a politician who actually believes what she says which is unusual . So for Brighton and for the future - Caroline . Don' to confuse local and national politics because you re pissed off with the roads or the rubbish . This is a national issue and we need some Green MP s to balance the other ideoligies. We 've got one in Brighton so let's treasure her. Let's give her a massive show of approval and tell the rest of the country that we believe in being Green and down here we think
a bit differently and we re proud of it . Let's look after what we ve got .
