What about the grown men mugging at the camera and generally making twats of themselves? Fanzone appeals to a certain section of our support, the section that, like it or not, have only been coming for a few years and for whom a visit to the Amex is a day out rather than something that is borne out of pride and passion.

Having pride and passion doesn't mean being stoic as well. You can be prideful and passionate and make an arse of yourself all at the same time.

I think we should sing a mash-up of 'Great Escape' and 'Ring of Fire' and the footballers on the pitch will be inspired to become brilliant and play like Brazil 1970. Of course, this may have the same effect on the opposing side and this may cause them to cancel each other out.

We can call it 'The Fire Escape'

Thought the atmosphere was a bit better yesterday, definitely noisier from parts of the ground that are usually quiet this season (including WSL where I am). Bigger attendance helped I guess.

Fanzone is a bit cheesy but keeps the kids happy. The montage is fantastic, brings tear to my eye.

I don't think we're better or worse than most other grounds. B'muff were pretty good, but the few away games I've been to this season we outsang the home lot. As has been said the problem is the 2-3000 that travel are a) spread all round the Amex b) sat down and c) surrounded by disapproving others. Sitting down is one of the biggest factors IMHO, along with poor performances. The first 15-20 mins yesterday was ok but it kind of died after that, only picking up in the final 10-15 mins (when half of the non-singers had left anyway)

Have to agree, I thought it was a lot better yesterday. A lot has been talked about this over the last few months, is it a coincidence that our home form is rubbish. A lot of factors make for a good atmosphere not least winning. Let's maybe have this conversation when we have had a decent win at home and the fans have actually something to cheer about. We have had a tough few months at home with a lot of dissatisfaction with Sami and his style of management.

All about the home form. Even under Oscar the atmosphere was pretty poor which reflected some of the somewhat dour football being played. A few home wins with a few goals and everything will be different. Even as it is at the moment it's still better than most grounds in the division.

Maybe the club put a rate the fans around survey in the programme at the next home game on a Saturday. We could rate our fellow fans on,
Do they sing?
Do they add to the atmosphere?
Or do they just moan about everything and anything and yet do sod all themselves to create any atmosphere.

Then the club could stick them all together in the upper East and rename the stand as the Library.

If people are going to moan about what other fans are contributing, then let's have a name and shame thread. Post the area and seat number so we can all know who these people are, and give them a right of reply

Read my post, I did say a number of factors, that would include what you have said.

Like I said in another thread........It may help if the so called 'Northstanders' turned up on time. Every game the northstand is about a 3rd full 10minutes before kick off. The club put 'Fanzone' on to try and create an atmosphere, but there is little point if very little actually make the effort and join in.
Atmosphere's are created both during AND before the game. Just ask any of the old Goldstone 'Northstanders' and ask them what time did you take your position and most will say around 2:30 ish.
I suppose we are too spoilt, being able to get drinks etc right up to KO. Maybe the club shud close the shutters at 2:30 but that will never happen.
So I guess that is what we are left with. It normally takes a good 10 mins to create a good song going, then people are then thinking already thinking about beating the 'q's at half time.......or arguing amongst themselves who should lead the song off.

Tis true many fans in the NS are more interested in beer than football hence the rush to their seats after SBTS has finished, same ones disappear at 40 minutes and don't 're-appear until 50+ minutes. Most then go on 85 minutes. We would be better off if they just stayed in the pub.

Edit:

cannot be arsed.

WSU the atmo seemed v good today. Again, compare our home support to say Fulham & Charlton who we've just visited & you'll notice the atmo in the whole at the Amex is without doubt top 10 maybe top 6 in the whole league. Are people oblivious to the fact every club has louder away support than home? You can't compare the two...

AMEX HAS A GOOD ATMOSPHERE - there I said it :)

This i agree with. Sorry to say but there are no clubs in English football at home that make this so called "wall of noise" for 90 minutes.
I've been to grounds where it's a library literally and you can hear a pin drop. Some grounds have better atmospheres than others and always will do.
The AMEX is one of the better grounds for noise in the league. Compare the noise at Fulham, Charlton, Brentford, Norwich in recent away games and people will realise this.
What people will have to accept is
1. Away crowds (like ours) sound noisier than they do at home as you have a concentration of fans all singing
2. What happens on the pitch will affect the noise levels
3. The Northstand is not deep enough to carry noise
4. The noise we make now is on par with what was made at the goldstone

Been said a million times before and 3 good away days doesnt help but our home supporr is very poor.

Pockets of effort today. The rest just aint up for it.

Why don't you just go to the away games then?
Some people go to watch a game of football, others like to have sing song, others just like the beer...Some do all three..
You do what you want and let others do the same even if it is not what you want them to do.

The problem is that too many people are happy to say that it is no worse than elsewhere and do nothing about it or worse, con themselves into think it is one of the top grounds for atmosphere. There are far too many threads on NSC to make the above not true, even the club have commented on the lack of atmosphere.

Unless people want there to be a change, there wont be one. It will be a sing when your winning.

I must be missing the point.....what good does it do for the players to hear 'songs' deriding Palace (most of them won't know what it's about) and more importantly, as soon as you start shouting support, the stewards tell you to shut up and sit down......?

I think some of you need to go to more aways. I have hardly been to many grounds in champ, L1 or 2 that are these "cauldron" of noise that some people seem to think exist.

Deal with it the amex atmos is not bad not by a long long way.
