myself ive never hated the germans infact if the truth be known I admire them, they seem successful in everything they do. most people feel the same about them, the german hatred stems from hitler and whilst many brits weren't overly keen on the crouts back then they are now ..though you'll find not many admitting to that, i'll probably get a grilling myself but its only banter nothing more than that.punish:

Thank you, my friend. Obviously I am more sensitive than most to the Germans but have noticed a shift these last few years. The war is still often featured on the TV,rightly or wrongly, and I think that subconsciously, this affects our view of the Germans but there is now far more respect for them. I recall many young Brits saying that their attitude to the germans had changed after actually visiting the country to support England at the World Cup there. It is, in my opinion, a very under-rated country as far as tourism is concerned - service is usually first-rate, the scenery in many areas is lovely, and, what might surprise you, prices are generally cheaper. That is not to say all is wonderful - aggression on the roads is more noticeable than here, for example, and people in the street, though polite, can be more assertive - to put it in a jocular fashion - they will always say "Guten Morgen" as they push in font of you! Germans tend to be more reserved when they first meet you, and I think this is what British people mean when they comment that the Germans have no sense of humour. Most contact is fleeting, perhaps around the pool on holiday, and so the impression is formed, understandably enough. Be interested to hear others experiences.

I think that we need to control immigration, and yes i work with many different immigrants on the sites and they do a decent days work.
The point that many try to make is that it is not the immigrants that are to blame (there are lazy immigrants, there are lazy English people) but the amount that have been let in.
There are not enough properties, ah so let's build thousands more eh....no just curb immigration, although the stable door should have been shut along time ago.

Thanks for this. I think the debate has evolved into two separate issues, albeit unintended -house prices in London and the huge influx of foreigners we are witnessing. To be fair, if we are to blame foreigners for the apparent explosion in London house prices, we are surely talking here of, say, rich arabs spending their petro-dollars, rather than the traditional view of the low-skilled immigrant from poorer countries.
Last year by all accounts net immigration reached 500.000 and presumably this will be the same figure this year? This will inevitably contribute to overcrowding, and problems with the infrastructure. But also must be borne in mind the housing implications when nowadays millions divorce - husband usually moves out and has to find somewhere to live. This too causes shortages of accommodation. I fully appreciate what you are saying about the difficulties that young people are now facing, as the price rises, relative to salary. It must be very frustrating for them.

Thanks for pointing out the difference, these are the type of people I was trying to point out in my post.
When all is said and done is still doesn't change the fact there are far too many people coming here like you pointed out, which will eventually lead to over crowding. Nobody wants it, quality of life, space and being able to access your services are far more important for millions of people.

there are far more complex reasons for housing shortages than immigrants. saying immigrants are coming here and buying the property that 30k earners cant afford doesnt really make for a coherent argument against immigrants.
/QUOTE]

Did i say that immigrants were BUYING the properties. The population now and few properties mean rents and prices of available properties is high. Demand and supply. As stated many times, the amount of people emigrating here needs to be controlled.

Here is just a typical example of what we are talking about
http://www.theargus.co.uk/news/11640396.Fears_raised_over_sale_of_school_playing_fields_in_Newhaven/

Then you read this "Newhaven will need to accommodate a minimum of 830 new houses, in addition to the 609 dwellings that have planning permission but are not yet built"

What about the jobs in the local area, and the local services. Newhaven is busy enough, just look at the one way system of an evening. These houses are going on the old Parker Pen site that used to employ thousands of local people.

It's never going to work.

Well this is where the Leftie stance falls down. They have no problem with mass immigration, yet will camp up trees to save the land, will advocate cutting car travel, pollution etc, but don't mind enough houses being built to match a city the size of Birmingham. This which seems to destroy their "values" to let those into a country that is full atm.

understand they've got a massive problem with the turks have they not ?
absolutely no need for you to feel sensitive mate... anyone who can lay blame on an entire nation for one mans wrong doing only proves ignorance on their part. same as I get offended when someone demands an apology for britains wrong doings that happened centuries back i.e. ...slavery and some of the barbaric atrocities committed during its empire days.

Thanks for your reply. the Turks are there in large numbers and you are quite right in that relations can at times be strained. My experience of the Turks there was mixed - When I managed a youth football team, containing about 3 Turkish lads, the parents kept themselves to themselves largely and this did not help. Looking to the adult section, they also wanted to have their own team, within the football club as a whole, which was the 6th team, though not necessarily due to ability - I played in the 5th, the lowest, ability-wise, of the 5 usual teams that the club ran! Dealing with them was not always easy and though it was never written down, there was much anecdotal evidence that certain referees were always allocated to their matches, as they had a better rapport with them. That said, I and the other Brit in the team went one evening to their club, and they were super to us, such was their gratitude that we were prepared to bridge that invisible gap. But, you sense that there is tension beneath the surface. I am not sure whether the Turks are still coming to Germany in the numbers that they did, say in the 60s to service the economic miracle, as it was called, and many are now third generation, such as Osul.

Nazis were a one-man band?... should have won the war a lot quicker then.

To be fair, what the post was suggesting, as I am sure that you know, that the Nazis were only ever a minority, despite much intimidation, prior to Hitler assuming power. I think the max vote they got was 40% -huge chunk, I realise, but 60% did not vote for them. It would be an interesting thread to talk about how a well-armed, determined and ruthless minority can hold sway over the majority.
