From what I have read heard about Brighton this season it sounds like we are having the same sort of season

Last season a visit to Spurs would be a much better prospect. Then we had the goalscoring of Ulloa and the sprint speed of Buckley to get a consolation goal.
What have we got this season: the acceleration of Lualua, the player beating trickery of Paddy McCourt, the slightly slapdash ability of Bruno, the right foot of Colunga (and maybe heading if it was not a fluke against Boro), and unseen reputation of Holla, the presence of Rohan Ince and we stand a chance from corner kicks (if we get any). We have still got he ability to keep possession (second best in the Championship narrowly behind Derby) and the best passing percentage in the Championship.
If Spurs are disjointed and play like they did last midweek it could be 5-1 or 3-4. As both teams are languidly wasteful it could be an exciting 0-0.

Yep, I see it this way as well.
Spurs do not seem to be able to trap the ball and move quickly. We seem to rush a bit and lack composure and bottle.

Its tedious, I am a fan of inverted wingers/fullback (Watson and Zamora showed how dangerous it could be) but with Spurs it just doesnt work and we end up shooting from 30 yards.
I expect us to win tonight 2 maybe 3 -1 but you will have chances with our defence and if you take those we could be out.
This will be a bit of a novelty. Most of the season we have been banging away ineffectively against a deep defence. If our own defence is put under pressure, 90% of the fans think it will collapse. Very much depends of what team you put out. Put in too many wide men in place of a ball winner and you will not get so much of the ball. This is why Paddy McCourt will be on the bench. Admirable as his ability (yet to be seen) at prising open a deep defence, this will not be the score tonight. We need to keep hold of the ball and win it back, which we can be quite good at.
I think wingers should be able to play with both feet. So inverted does not come into it (ideally). Colunga is a right footed as Lamela is left footed.
Inverted full backs are a real liability. Under pressure they give the ball away.
This season Albion have not got the pace for breakaways.

We don't really have wingers of any note, Lennon is finished and Townsend is a bit meh.... we start with 3 number 10s.
They are, even more so when they can not defend in the first place!
Lamela is a perfect example of why it doesn't work - brilliant on his strongest side against (albeit a weak side) the put on the opposite wing the following game and is terrible.
I would Love us to go 442 and play Kane and Soldado.

Every time Will Buckley sprinted at full tilt last year he pulled his hamstring last season didn't he?
A half speed Buckley* was faster than the current team. Rider: Colunga showed glimpses of acceleration over short distances against Rotherham. I don't think he had been match fit. But playing deep defence and hoping for breakaways is just not going to work. We haven't got the players for it. The worst of it is that the opposition can push their left back forward and we have not got a counter. Lump the ball into the empty gap and we have not one to chase it. No winger to stretch their defence.
*Buckley pulled up in the important games at home to Hull and Derby.

Sadly I'm not sure that we ever saw Buckley really light the afterburners at any stage last season. I suggest that he played within himself, maybe not much above 90%. A mix of lost confidence in his hamstrings and (ahem)......not wishing to prejudice his chance of joining up with Poyet.
Oh for those heady games when we had Buckley, Noone and KLL to choose from.

Such negativity! We have nothing to lose, I just hope the players aren't like most on here, this is the cup, strange things happen, I believe we can go there and give them a game... All the pressure is on them, believe! I just have a feeling something special is in the offing.

That was my thought when a Spurs pundit said that Townsend and Lennon should get games tonight.....and not just Calde either - Bennett is a concern too.
God forbid that Chicksen gets any pitch time as he was completely owned by Scannell last week.
The vulnerability down the flanks to outright pace invites pressure on Greer and Dunk as well. We could do without them getting cards tonight - we need them for Saturday!
Who is betting that Hughes gets a run out in place of Greer?
My thinking is that we need a winger to stop their left back getting forward. And we need Bruno fit. Bruno will be the first I will look for on the team sheet. And it is even chance he will not be fit. Rob Hunt (reserve RB) played for the reserves on Monday and he has never featured in the first team squad. Our lack of recruitment is looking like shortcoming right now.
Chicksen did not look so bad on the highlights. Commentators said that Chicksen let Scannell past on the inside too much but Scannell is so hopelessly right footed it did not matter, not until he got around on the outside for the Huddersfield goal, which was an exceptional finish. I share your misgivings though. I would certainly play Townsend if I were them. More worried about our right hand side if Bruno is still out, or if he plays when not fully fit.

Unfortunately, I agree. Bennett is more of a concern at giving the ball away going forward.
Teixeira could play as a sort of winger? Not convinced. I think I prefer Colunga.
