Good solid pro. Would hope that Hyypia can make a good judgement call for the best pairing but my initial thoughts would be Hughes and Dunk.

And before anyone shoots me about Greer I just feel his performances at the back end of season were a bit suspect.

Upson was heavily criticised as a signing initially, but proved to be excellent. I hope this will be the case again.

I like his updated wikipedia...

"Following his release from QPR Hughes made a great decision and signed a one year contract with 2014-15 Championship winners Brighton and Hove Albion, really smart move Aaron"

We are heading to the PL next year then, if we have already won it!! Cool

Really? I know my memory is getting faulty, but I don't remember reading a lot of criticisms over his signing.

I am underwhelmed by the signing of Hughes but I guess he provides cover and was a freebee. Let's hope for much better before the season starts.

Was he? "Heavily criticised?" Really? I remember it being overwhelmingly positive on here when we got him.

Can't see how a direct replacement for Upson who played for England and was our player if the season .

Surely not a first choice starter and more to come cb ?

I'm happy if squad player , few concerns if genuinely seen as Upson replacement

A very good signing. Free, experienced and solid defender (who won promotion last season). Excellent work!

That's how I remember it, glad it's not just me.

Well it's just my recollection as I was surprised at the time. Maybe I just paid too much attention to particular posts.

The actual point though is really that I think Hughes is a good signing, just what we need, and I think it will work out well.

I suspect that the club see Dunk as a step up to replace Upson and have signed Hughes for experienced cover. It also looks as if Maximenko will be pushed on this season in a CB role. I am pretty happy with that if that is the case. No matter what people think about Greer and yes he is prone to the odd lapse. He has made an international spot his own in Scotlands last four games and conceeded one goal. He was also part of a defence that had the second best record in the league last season. What do people want from him, I would say that was a pretty good record.
