You see, this is where we need something like, oh, a Thumbsup or Thumbsdown option...

Without it, your contribution isn't really worth the four key strokes it was written on.

If you did not admire the guy, cannot understand why indeed you bothered to comment. In a thread where people are enjoying the life of someone that made them laugh, your time would have been better served watching your Miranda DVD Shirley?

Prick - Don't you think that his quad bike accident had something to do with his less than prolific output over the past few years?

Shut up idiot. His comedy was as two dimensional as Kenny Everett's. And as laugh-free. Just because somebody dies, we don't all suddenly have to pretend they were a comedy genius. IMHO, like.

Hard off-hand to think of an unfunnier comedian than Rik Mayall. Oh, hang on, MIRANDA! To be fair to Rik tho, his Young Ones colleagues were equally unfunny.

The first two series of 'Bottom' are amongst the best television ever made imo. Very sad news, RIP Rik.

Even more hilarious was your mother confiscating all the Bottom VHS tapes and hiding them in my wardrobe when she heard all those naughty words  I think you were about 9 or 10 at the time.

The Christmas special of Bottom is a rare thing. A festive edition of a comedy that actually works- 'Gold, Frankenstein and Grhhhh'

Hard off-hand to think of a reason why you are still posting your insensitive drivel, apart from an attention seeking desire to build that lovely big post count of yours.

RIP Rik - gutted when I heard - early teenage years spent watching Bottom and still have all the VHS' somewhere. Never laughed so hard at some of those moments and later in life seeing Bottom Live at The Brighton Centre - this and the Simpsons largely helped shape my sense of humour to this day. Drop Dead Fred, while not the best film, still showed off his impish character - great memories all round.

A true comedy legend who I grew up laughing the most with.

Not a big fan of the wailing and gnashing of teeth that always accompanies somebody who did their best work a quarter of a century ago and wasn't all that funny at the time (be honest!).

Have to agree with you here. Did find his material unfunny and repetitive. Still he was a massive part of television for me in my growing up days. He does come across as one of the good guys on tv. Quite shocked by this news.

RIP Rik.

Watched virtually everything he did in the 80s and 90s.
Also saw him live doing his one man show at Portsmouth guildhall in 1989 - I have never laughed so much in all my life (and that really is saying something as I don't take much of life that seriously). My face, chest, and stomach ached beyond belief from the laughter.
He will be missed greatly, but what a legacy to keep watching!
