Everyone now against Sherwood - Why?

I've been against him from the start - I believe we need more experience in charge than he has to offer.

So have I, because I think he's a bit of a Fruit Cake! Throws wobblers and chucks his Teddy around too much for my liking.

Strange the dislike for Sherwood but most of NSC were willing to back some bloke that no one had heard of a fortnight ago.

I wouldn't say Sherwood is at the upper end of our expectations. If anything, it's the other way around - the reason being right now there are a lot of managers with good CVs looking for work, e.g:

Big names - Moyes, Laudrup, O'Neill. Championship success - Mackay, Hughton. Other Prem - Steve Clarke, Meulensteen, Di Matteo. International - Yakin, Lennon, Rangnick.

True, but realistically some of those names will be unaffordable and have unrealistic expectations of our transfer budget. The dilemma for Tony Bloom and Paul Barber is to find the right manager they can afford who will accept and commit to the Albion's adherence to FFP and the playing budget this allows. I suspect some of those names might struggle to commit to that.

We may need to spend a bit to gain a decent manager but also want him to have a meaningful budget to strengthen the squad.

No, its because everyone is entitled to an opinion. Should everyone just agree with everything?

I don't want Sherwood either, I find him irritating in press conferences and lacking in class generally...... I felt Les Ferdinand and Chris Ramsey handled themselves far better in that spat with the other team in the UEFA cup. I just don't understand why he feels the need to be controversial and outspoken.

I actually think I'd prefer Hughton to Sherwood, comes across as more considered, got Newcastle out of this division.

All of that said, all we need is a good start to the season and whoever comes in would win the fans over......

I believe we need someone who understands the English game and the fact the Championship season is 46, and possibly 49 games long, plus cup games, which the fans actually expect the team to compete in.

How was OG ever going to manage that after a 26 game season plus playoffs in the Israeli league? No wonder he looked completely lost most of the time. I'd be surprised if OG re-appeared in the English game ever again.

Sherwood is motivated, a winner and will not give the pathetic "i'm proud of my players" post match garbage week in week out either.

We also like to think that we're too big a challenge for Russell Slade, Karl Robinson and other lower-league managers.

It's funny, I'm all for giving successful lower league managers a chance at higher levels, but for I'd feel more confident with someone proven in charge.

I can understand people being for and against the appointment. A Chris Hughton type of appointment would feel a bit deflating, I am sure he is a nice guy, but I can't remember a single game I saw on TV when he was in charge of Norwich where I thought they looked like an exciting team who played good football. For me the fact that Sherwood could either be brilliant or rubbish is exciting and I would be looking forward to next season to see how it all pans out.

I don't think people are now suddenly against him. I think the prevailing comments have ebbed and flowed with his position in the odds. When it looked like he would get the job people who had reservations (outspoken character - too much like Gus?, reservations about his tactical ability, etc) were concerned and felt the need to express their worries. As he drifted away from the top of the odds, people felt less obliged to express their concerns. Now he is back up there, the concerns are being raised again.

Really, people will have concerns whoever gets the job. If it's someone making their start in management their lack of experience will be a negative, if they are experienced the concern would be the corruption of this identity we wish to cling to, or the old managerial merry-go-round spewing up a journeyman manager.


I have no strong feeling on Sherwood either way. Didn't particularly take to him in any of his interviews, his goals on sunday thing didn't warm me to him, and I'm not familiar enough with the football spurs played under him to really be sure, but I'm not opposed to him either.

I remember people asking for Gus's head at the start of his managerial career! I wouldn't pay much attention, success takes time to achieve.

I was against him at the start but looking at what's on offer (Mowbury, Houghton, Neil ****ing Lennon) I'd take Sherwood now. Bergkamp with Liam Brady running the academy is my choice though 

Bergkamp leading our first team Very ambitious, doubt he would leave Ajax at the moment for us would he?

Against him now for the same reasons as when his name first came up. He's too fly by half and has no qualms about bad-mouthing his employers. Relations would have irretrievably broken down by the end of the January transfer window. Plus he's called Tim.

So was Gus inexperienced, but he didn't do too bad did he...do you really fancy an old has been journeyman as manager?
Would you've been happy with Clement...another with no managerial experience,they all have to start somewhere,if he went to another club and became a hit then we wouldn't be able to afford him,many a good player has slipped through our hands because we didn't give them a chance.
