Big questions for Milliband tonight. Will he still be leader by next May? I see him as millstone around Labour's neck and they would be better off junking him now and hoping for a boost. He has 'loser' written all over him, I'm afraid.

As a labour voter and I could not agree more. He is weak, unconvincing and uninspiring as a leader and is unfortunately not getting the message that the Party want to in convincing floaters to vote for them again.

Labour should be mopping up the Lib Dem vote in places like Sutton and Birmingham but they're nowhere near and not winning seats in places like Rotherham is an exceptionally poor result.

Not particularly smashing it. Gaining lots of votes, but not any seats or councillors. I think it's the effect of "protest votes" rather than people actually investing in the policies of the party.

Yes

That's what you get with a country full of ignorant, miserable people with a victim mentality. They know nothing better than to blame their whole 'life-situation' on anything but themselves. "It's all those ****in foreigners from another piece of land on earth that's the root of all my problems"

No. Do you really thing the majority of people who voted for them have actually read any of their policies?

It's the people that keep going on about how horrible they are that are fueling them. They've probably had more media coverage than any other party and it doesn't matter if any of it is negative. I didn't vote because it's a waste of my time, but had I done I think I wouldv'e voted UKIP.

Why I hear you ask? Just to piss off all the people who keep telling me I can't, all the people on my facebook feed who keep posting links ironic buzzfeed articles and all the daft old women and badly dressed people who have time to follow Nigel Farage around and intimidate/shout at him. Sorry guys, this is a democracy and if I choose to vote for a load of crazy borderline racists with no policies then I bloody well can if I want.

If you keep telling me I can't, I'll do it whether I wanted to or not! - that is real British mentality.

While being rabidly anti-UKIP, I appreciate and have some sympathy with your view. It should be down to reasoned debate rather than unthinking condemnation.

EDIT - more than some sympathy - I agree with you.

It's only about one policy to me my friend , for the UK to be out of Europe . All I want is a referendum which the Tories have in place , I hope the other parties will now take note and include this in their policies . I did vote UKIP and at present will vote Tories in the general election but may look at other parties depending on the situation at the time .

Why do the simply awful artists on the X Factor always seem to get through to the final few rounds?

Shame his brother wimped out of the leadership contest. I think he would have been a superb Labour party leader.

I agree that he is weak and uninspiring leader...it's amazing that he ever got in the position of leader...I mean he got there with a block vote from a left wing union...they show real nous these unions don't they.

Here's the state of play after results from 64 out of 161 councils: Labour is ahead in terms of seats won, up by 105, UKIP, which had one councillor in the councils which have so far declared, has now added another 89. The biggest losses have gone to the Lib Dems, who are down by 102 seats overall, with the Conservatives down by 97.

Maybe I'm being naive, but given that labour are leading, and are doing so because they have gained a lot of seats, why are some press presenting it as UKIP getting one over on labour? Surely they are getting one over the conservatives and the lib dems who are losing seats. Or is it just the Tory bias of those particular news outlets trying to detract from Tory losses?

Libs Dems have suffered heavily in areas, UKIP have been taking votes from all three parties and not just Labour.

UKIP may gain votes but they won't gain seats, so therefore no real threat, the conservatives will take on board the anti vote, and when it comes to the general election they will win as people won't trust UKIP to be in charge of the country...... Nothing to see here

You really nailed that :ffsparr:

Ed is simply not PM material. A dollop of bird sh1t on his head and rolled up shirt sleeves ('I'm hard working, me') simply isn't enough. His brother, on the other hand, would give CMD problems at PMQ's and has more experience having held high ranking positions in Government. I suspect Ed will get booted out when he fails at next year's General Election and his brother will be welcomed back with open arms. If he wants it.

'kin hell. You're still peddling that 'laughing' line? It was used widely all over social media and failed spectacularly because UKIP have made massive gains all over the country. Isn't it time for you to swallow your pride, admit you are wrong about them being a 'joke party' and think about why people are voting for them in such large numbers?

(Please don't say because they're thick/racist. Most of them aren't as well you know).

Are you serious about wanting to see them defeated at the polls? If so, then you need to get serious.

The whole political landscape could change tonight.

Didn't though did it. Ha, I hear UKIP did quite well in Essex, the home of nitwits and slags. Brilliant. What a party for losers.
