Oscar has lost the fans

He certainly upset most of the fans that went today. I agree 100% with those saying it's not the winning it's the style. A prime example is Wigan at home, one of the most enjoyable games of the season and we lost. If every performance was like that I wouldn't be moaning if we were fighting relegation.

I know people want to show loyalty to a manager and not be like every tin pot club with a revolving cycle of shitty managers, but that doesn't mean you can't underline genuine concerns.

One, two or even 5 games with that sort of performance might be down to the players, but the consistent negative tactics, the passing back, drilling long, Ulloa isolated and not seeming to understand he will be bullied by defenders, players played out of position, either lumping it 80 yards or passing a 1000 times with no in between and the insistence after every game that we were the better team and nothing needs to change but our luck, that is the manager.

Not saying he isn't the right man for the job but I wish I had more evidence to support the fact that he is, rather than the blind faith (and maybe just blind hope) that some have.

I hope I'm wrong, I really do, because if I am then Brighton will be doing well and at the end of the day that's all I care about not the bloke in the dugout.

I was at the Blackburn game and we were shambolic, the players didn't look like they knew what to do. Today a fan, I wasn't there, said the players were clueless. Shirley OG should have imposed something worthwhile onto the players with a system by now, not all the players are suddenly useless.

Oscar doesn't even want to be here, you heard it here first. New manager in the summer.

Hate to say it but I've heard similar from a fairly reasonable source. Obviously, if it's true then he needs to do the decent thing asap but if it's bollocks (which it may well be) then he needs a full pre-season and then at the very least till Christmas. Draws against in form Blackburn and Barnsley aren't bad results but overall performances have been disappointing of late. I still say injuries have robbed us of any kind of consistency all season - even now 3 of our best players, Crofts, Buckley and Orlandi not to mention Ince are still out. Lua Lua can't play a full game, we've lost Barnes and Bridcutt and Ulloa is woefully out of form. We've barely, if at all, been able to field the same team twice all season. It must be like managing with one hand tied behind your back. That said, whilst OG has done reasonably so far, he has still to prove his credentials both in terms of managing the team and in his signings and he will only be able to do this if we give him enough time.

When they went down to ten men we just sat back and took the draw ??? Explain that to me and also your saying after we lost I was meant to say oh it's alright Garcia got his tactics right for a few games we will let him off ??? 5 games where he hasn't got the tactics right he played kaz through the middle when he came on ????

I don't think it's as simple as 'took the draw' - of course we were trying to win it, but again I assume you were there so I can't really comment. Yes Oscar may have got things wrong, particularly recently, but is that enough to want him out? Of course not. We need to be patient - frustrating of course but that's football / life!

I'm not convinced by your argument in this post. Surely a player who hasn't got a contract in a few months time will be more motivated than one who knows they have a five year contract: they're playing for their future.
If you don't show that commitment there's every chance that you won't be playing next year, however talented you are -- this group of players ought to be aware of that, as they have the example of Vicente to contemplate.

I had the chance to chat with a senior member of the squad a couple of weeks ago and although not out of contract himself this year he was very critical of the cubs policy on contracts. He said it unsettled players and made them nervous rather than making them more motivated. They had to get their agents looking for new clubs incase no new contract was forthcoming and that they would rather know they weren't getting a new contract than be left in limbo.

Method to their madness!

No, he hasnt lost a majority at all - he has lost the ones who all want success immediately. A minority - yes, but even a 4th place finish last year couldnt please a minority.

Again, its the players who arent giving it everything, they are the ones being gutless and putting in a half-hearted shift. No passion or fight again by the sounds of it, aside from Blackburn on Tuesday, its been lacking for a good few games.

could it be that most of the players realise they will very likely be out of jobs if we go up to the premier?? maybe these half-hearted performances are their way of trying to avoid promotion.
That said, Oscar does need to starting looking as if he is actually interested in what is going on. Take your hands out of those bloody pockets!! :tantrum:

Makes you wonder have we just been unlucky or have we been signing players more prone to injury? By all accounts we have one of the best medical set ups in the championship so it does seem unusual.

.

You may not be moaning if we were playing exciting football but losing every week and fighting relegation but 90% of fans would be apoplectic and would be telling OG that the first thing he needs to do is tighten up at the back and shore up the midfield. It's a very rare thing for a club with a mid table budget to find a formula that serves up exciting, fast flowing football mixed with conceding very few goals. Burnley have managed it so it can be done but had they had their injuries earlier on in the season I think it would have been a different story but fair play to Dyche who has done magnificently.

Don't think so myself. Surely being a professional player you want to earn a new contract. If they don't get one from us but helped us into the Prem surely this would look good on their CV and therefore secure a new contract with another club!

Most clubs have a large list of players out of contract. It's nothing new and part of football.

Not buying the motivating thing. Leicester don't have that problem and here's there list

Kasper Schmeichel
David Nugent
Lloyd Dyer
Marcin Wasilewski
Gary Taylor-Fletcher
Kevin Phillips
Sean St Ledger
Neil Danns
Martyn Waghorn
Zak Whitbread
Paul Gallagher
Michael Cain
Adam Smith

Yeh ok maybe not fighting relegation...points still valid though. How many teams get promoted from this league off of the back of the tightest defence?

Agreed. But it's the starting point for almost all successful teams. But I totally agree that we've got the balance wrong at the moment.

I don't understand the thinking of letting players run down their contract. It not only unsettles them but means that we risk losing them on a free.
Also, it takes away our bargaining power when it comes to selling players. Look at Barnes , for example, if he had a couple of years on his contract we could have commanded a higher price but we had to take the money , rather than risk getting nothing for him

A good manager would know what to do even if that means going to the chairman and saying "give me money to spend or I'm off"

If anyone thinks that after nine months a good coach still needs more time to work with the players he was left with or hasn't already signed the players he can work with or given a list of the players he wants they are deluding themselves.

If OG didn't know the players that might win promotion this season how was he ever going to know which players to bring in if we made the prem? He must have known how much the spend budget would be or worked out how he would how he would get the players in, he can't have just taken the job on without a plan can he?

As much as I don't like the bloke Poyet clearly realised that we had to keep spending and improving and its probably because he pushed too hard and threatened to leave that brought things to a head.

If he is as good a manager as some think on here he will have now demanded what he needs from TB and said that unless it happens he will be off because his reputation is at stake.

Lets face it Maclaren inherited someone elses team and they were poor when he came in and results changed within weeks so to say Oscar needs more time is a little dumb

"I look at the performance of my players and I feel they did what I asked of them. I cannot criticise them and say that they could have played better. They have given everything and I am proud of them.

Read more at http://www.seagulls.co.uk/news/arti...ve-any-more-1469402.aspx#H4CgWWdxHUQWhF0z.99t

That OG quote is exactly what I mean. Whilst he has to be slightly guarded in what he says there is no need to be that emphatic in saying the players did what you want if they didn't.

And if that is what he wants his players to be doing I don't know what time or a summer budget (which may or may not be there) will do..
