To an extent, but distance and route can vary accordingly.

Plus Southern advertise getting me to station x at y time.

Driving makes no such promises hence you cannot guarantee being where you want to be at a set time.

With trains there is a level of expectancy.

No train company guarantee to get you anywhere at any time actually.

May as well go here - signalling issue at Haywards Heath - 20 minute delays. Also person hit by a train has shut the West Coast line down between Milton Keynes and London.

Haywards Heath signalling issue is mainly affecting NORTHbound services, you might just be alright coming back from London, albeit with a very slight delay.

UPDATE - all fixed within 20 minutes.

Haywards Heath signalling issues re-occurred and now the lines through Haywards Heath are closed in both directions due to flooding.

Wouldnt be surprised if the signalling problems were down to flooding either.

I have to hand it to Southern, things were considerably better yesterday (writing this at 1235 am). I got to Gatwick just after 0830 and parked in the long stay car park (Three Bridges has been full for the past week with displaced East Grinstead travellers), then easily caught the 0857, which got to Victoria bang on time (mind you the airport was chaotic - several taxi drivers coming to park in the long stay as the short stays were solid - don't know if that was rail commuters displaced from Three Bridges. If so, they're letting themselves be fleeced). Coming back, there were delay notices all over the board, but I got the 1832 Gatwick Express, which only arrived two minutes late at Gatwick, despite the signalling problems, so credit where it's due.

Hopefully the East Grinstead travellers will return to their line (I used to use that line, but have changed for various reasons) and not block the Three Bridges car park solid. £6.20 to park is preferable to £12.50.

Brighton factually.....
Bloody wife, just called at 2am, she said that they got given taxis from Horsham to three bridges and was now stranded. She only left her bag in the taxi with her laptop, wallet, work phone and season ticket in it ! I told her to get a taxi as I have cash at home rather than wake our daughter, bloody £70 ! Bloody expensive night for the wife, does anyone know who to contact about the taxi firms the train company might have put on, to see if we can get her stuff or some of it back. That will teach her to go for a drink after work eh !

So I have to lose my own private time on the basis Southern cant keep the schedule they advertise delivery of?

Righto.

Well it is your responsibility to ensure you get to work on time and if you feel the train your catching is not delivering that then it's up to you to allow more time for your journey.

Jesus. I can tell from this attitude you have worked on the railways.

Sounds unreasonable to me. If I drive I DO feel responsible for my arrival time, but on a train, there's a published timetable, so if my journey deviates from that, I don't see that as my responsibility.

Having said that, if I need to be somewhere at a specific time (like an interview) I will catch a train earlier than I really need.

Divorce I reckon. It's what she deserves.

Do the station forecourts have CCTV?she may be able to identify the taxi she got in and track the driver/firm that way

Another lousy journey in making. Sat at Preston Park waiting for late running gatwick express to go in front of us. Nkw stuck behind it up to London. We could have gone straight through in front of it, but Southern controllers demknstrate their wisdom and keep us waiting 10 mins give or take.

If I hated commuting that much I would find a job that I would walk to.........

If it minimises the overall delay's then it's the correct regulating decision.
