He's a hard worker, good coach, great for sound bites, expressive, ambitious, high maintenance and impatient.

Poyets record as a manager with us was, Division One winner. That's it, nothing more. The same as Pat Saward, Micky Adams Charlie Webb. He had some money to use, he inherited the makings of a good team left by Slade. But his behaviour was appalling, getting involved in the Suarez affair, he became the media target whenever they wanted a 'bette noir' comment. He will do the same with Sunderland and reminds me of one of those fireworks that sits on the ground fizzing for a while and then fades away. I am sure that his departure with Sunderland will be acrimonious. No respect at all for him.

Can't agree with that. He didn't just win the Div One title. He took a side that was heading for relegation and turned it around. He introduced an entirely different style of play that had our familiar players doing things we never thought they were capable of. Then he BULLDOZERED his way to the title ahead of much better-resourced teams including megabucks Southampton. And he did all this at the shitpit that was Withdean.

Then, in the Championship, we kept on getting better and better. Sadly as some point Poyet decided that upward curve wasn't moving fast enough for his ambitions. Which is very sad. And I think he behaved badly and unprofessionally at the end of it all.

But let's not rewrite history. What he did for us was amazingly good.

As someone said on another thread.......if he Keeps you up this season , then expect to see him leading out spurs first game of next season.

I think there's more chance of that if we go down, he'll feel less inclined to stay but will still have proven himself by getting to Wembley (hopefully more than once)

What a lot of people don't know which I have posted before is that days before the palace 2nd leg Gous told Tony he wanted to leave NOW. He also wanted his contract payed up in full. Tony refused of course so Gus the Ego refused to deal with the players. That is why he was in breach of contract.

Info from the best source possible.

Also for info Bridders and Ego share the same agent, separate I know but worth a mention.

Gus asked to leave before the 3-0 win. Not the second leg.

You can't even spell entitled, therefore I'm highly unlikely to take life advice from you.

****.

Get a life! If the best you can do is pick up on a misspelling then you have lost the argument. Last time I checked this wasn't and spelling proficiency forum. You should reflect on your stupid response for life advice.

His Ego is bigger than most clubs, including yours, and it's no surprise your DOF was sacked soon after Gus got settled, he doesn't do bosses. I believe that the reasons Gus was wanting out of here was that he had people above him that he wanted removed, and the Chairman disagreed. He saw off the first DOF appointed, he lasted just 3 months.

If he keeps you up he will expect an increased budget, if he thinks the budget is lower half, he will mention this frequently, either as a reason for not being very high in the table, or as an example of how good he is if you are higher in the table than your budget ought to allow you to be. If you have a bad spell and he hears any criticism from the stands he will sulk and tell you that he can stay home and play Golf if his efforts are not appreciated.
You will forgive him his tantrums and over inflated ego because every now and then your team will play like Barcelona, and generally he will be doing a good job. It is likely that he will have learned a little from his experience here and not make such an arse of himself when he wants to move on, but I would not be surprised if his eventual departure from Sunderland involves some amount of animosity.

Obviously with the draw comes the chance that Poyet will face his old club, and I was reading through here to see what the general consensus was on that. It seems that you, lets just say, don't like our manager much. But I was wondering why exactly? I never really read much into the situation that got him sacked (all I recall was an incident in Crystal Palace's dressing room in the play-offs?) and have no real idea on what terms he left. Just wondering, any insight would be appreciated.

Good luck tomorrow by the way, hopefully you can upset Bruce a bit for us.

no simple answer.

But when your chairman barged in and stopped the transfer of Lee Cattermole, he probably sussed. Everything seemed to be going OK until we sold Craig Noone to Cardiff. For a whole lot of complicated reasons I daresay.
That was the first move. what was the final straw?

Is it though?

No it's not a load of shit. You are right to question it. The other thing is that before the famous match of the day denial TB had spoken to him personally. Not his agents / lawyers.

Sorry about that, should have been Peter Taylor and forgot to mention Alan Mullery taking us to division one. The point is Poyet is not unique and has done nothing more than some before him.

Nobody said it was unique but taking a team from the relegation zone to a league winning title with a record number of points, at the top for a record number of weeks, and achieving that title with 5 games to spare is unique.
We also got to 10th and then 4th in the next two seasons, which is our highest position for 30 years.

A lot of fans forget that Gus changed our style of play completely, and when it all went pear shaped, it paved the way for Oscar to take over. Oscar is continuing the style that Gus started. Hopefully he will take us further.

He asked to leave before the Palace game in March not the playoff. Source Tony Bloom.

Tony Bloom cited that as the first time he was aware that there was a problem with Gus, he didn't elaborate on anything else that went on after that and he definitely did not say that was the only time he said he wanted out.

He had spoken to him during the day. Nobody has questioned that but the decision was reached after he arrived for his tv appearance. Paul Barber has admitted that they didn't know he was on tv that night, so the timing was a big mistake. That's why the club hurriedly put out a statement by both Barber & Bloom the following day. They said he knew the decision was pending.

Same style, don't know what games you are watching. Oscar plays a very different game, even though he was hamstrung when he started and has had some terrible injuries to his squad. Poyet did well, but was not exceptional, Atkins came up with us and then took Southampton to the prem, does that make him a legend? Poyet was definitely second class on that one. Too many people have entrenched themselves in the Withdean mentality. This club will achieve without Poyet and I'm sure in the ,majority of fans minds he is now just a distant memory.
