My worry is that when Liam leaves, will Oscar be allowed to spend all or any of the transfer fee? My opinion is the cheque book is closed!!

Wasn't expecting him to stay but also wasn't expecting him to hand in a transfer request..

£5 million to Palace or Sunderland, £3 million to anyone else and we've done well.

any chance that Liam could be doing this in conjunction with the club as a goodwill gesture to waive the loyalty fee and save us some money, with both sides knowing it's only a matter of time anyway before he goes?

Could be, the club would have to pay up his contract out of the transfer fee if they sell him without a transfer request.

It does make you wonder if:

- Liam and Gus have been in cahoots all along
- Gus knew he couldn't afford Bloom's valuation
- Bridcutt subsequently under performs after return from injury to keep price down
- Transfer request as final throw of the dice

At the end of the day he has to look after himself and earn the most he can. Did I read he had a kid? If so he's just providing for his family

He already earns enough in two weeks to look after his family for a whole year. You make it sound like he's on the poverty line at Brighton.

Footballers handing in a transfer request so that they can play in a higher league wouldn't give a toss about losing out on a loyalty bonus from their existing club. The signing on fee and increase in wages will dwarf any payment due.

What I am saying is that he signed a contract for a particular length of time and needs to be willing to honour it. If the club chooses to try to sell him and he wants to go, so be it, but he has no right to be upset with the club, or give less than 100% on the pitch (as he has at times this season) because he's being made to honour what he has put his name to.

Now, this is a separate issue as to whether I think it's in the interest of the club to sell him. Right now, I think it would be advantageous, especially as the variety of building of play from the defence to midfield has improved considerably under Garcia (it used to be only Bridcutt who could pick a ball from a defender and bring it confidently into midfield. Now others can do that too).

That is a rare occurrence and totally weighted in favour of the players these days. Contracts are just bits of paper waiting to be abused. Usually by the player in question but not when TB is involved thank goodness. Tony certainly is no mug when it comes to negotiations, trust in him to get this right. I will

From Sunderlands forum - "Its a sign of how bad things have got when we are getting excited about the possible signing of a lad from Brighton"

Hmmmm it sounds as if they are not that impressed

It's a little sad but not unexpected. We have shown that we don't miss him as much as we thought we would. He's underperformed but I would expect that after so long out. I wish him well, but won't miss him as I prefer Ince who I think long-term is going to be a better player and is also far more attacking in style.

I'm actually quite interested to see how TB deals with all this. Is he the cool headed negotiater that no one should ever want to lock horns with? According to some on here he is....

I'd see 3.5m+ as good business, 3m acceptable and any less would be a disappointment!

Liam!

We picked you out, we shook you up
And turned you around
Turned you into someone new
Now five years later on you've got the world at your feet
Success has been so easy for you
But don't forget it's us who put you where you are now
And we can put you back down too.

Like that

this board is going to have to grow a MUCH thicker skin if we're going where we think we're going...whenever we get there...
