It seems inevitible that Bridcutt will be a Sunderland player by the end of the week, hopefully before then we can tie up an extended deal for R. Ince and make some progress on the Conway deal.

Thanks for posting, I imagine no fee was mentioned or you would have said! I'm going to cross my fingers for £4m. Now let's PLEASE keep Barnes and PIG.

No fee mentioned as you state - I'll try and find out. Personally I believe the funds will be used to sign Conway and nobody else ( my opinion not from my contact ).

I think you've answered your own question with "The later in the widow you do the business, the higher the fee."! :)

However you also run the risk of losing the deal completely. Imagine the club plays hardball, Sunderland then find another target and sign him, Bridcutt gets p*ssed off we didn't let him move to the premier league and so refuses to sign a new deal and next january has less than 6 months left and leaves for nothing.

You are also ignoring the fact that Bridcutt may have a release clause in his contract that could be lower than we'd like. When did he last sign a contract/extension?

Neither Tony nor Poyet like doing business in January we are continually told, so it's as you were until the summer.

If by 'quicker' you mean, more long ball, then I'd agree.

In both instances (under Gus and Oscar), they take the approach of passing it around in an attempt to bring the opponents into a smaller gathering, before pinging the ball to someone in space. However, under Oscar, the ball isn't played through the midfield any quicker than it was under Gus; it is however, got forward earlier by greater use of the 'long ball' or 'long pass'.

Regarding the pace of the game, I presume you missed the Reading game then?

I was there. Didn't see that game the same way as you. Don't agree about pace of our passing game now versus under Gus either.

I'm not ignoring anything. We will not rush negotiations / be steamrollered into a deal. He signed a contract extension not so long ago as well.

Whether the like to or not is fairly irrelevant. Poyet needs to - and we may not have too much choice (yes, you can always turn down offers, but if the offer is good and the player want to go, no point in stopping him and having an unhappy player around the place).

I think he is worth at least £4M. I would be very disappointed if he went for less.

Sorry but l can't agree. With very few exceptions, defensive midfielders don't fetch fantastic amounts of money. As good as Liam is at his job, he doesn't norm ally venture very far from his position in front of the back four, isn't a box to box type player, or weigh in with his share of goals.

If Sunderland, or any other club were to offer, say £2.5m for him, l'd do business. Especially bearing in mind we already have Keith Andrews and Rohan Ince on the staff who can do a similar job, (perhaps not quite as well, but at least adequately).

That £2.5m could then be spent on bringing Craig Conway back to the club permanently, and maybe attract another proven target man to sign for us, especially bearing in mind the continuing absence of CMS, and the possibility that Ashley Barnes will jump ship before the window closes.

i wasn't suggesting we would be rushed or steamrollered, my point was its a fine line between maximising the fee without scuppering the deal and ending up with a worthless "asset".

Didn't we sign Ulloa in the last January window with TB and GP in charge ?

I'm already resigned to him going, now it's just a question of how much we can get. 4 Mill would be fair.

The first season he was here he brought in Calderon, Painter, and a couple more in January. We needed them to get out of the relegation zone.
