Yes, which quality striker can we get for just £3m though?

We got Ulloa for 2m. I'm sure that Burke has kept tabs on a number of strikers around the world that none of us have the first clue about.

Bridcutt has been half the player since Gus left.

His role is more of an EPL role, and as one of the better teams in the championship, we have less need for a defensive midfielder - but a bottom half EPL team really need someone like him.

We are on the front foot most of the time, so Ince is the perfect replacement.

£4m, no less, then sell.

Intelligence shining through again. He's hardly played since Poyet went!!!!

Take 3ml for Bridcutt. With the money, get Barnes,Ince and PIG to resign, buy Conway and get a young striker on loan (with a view to purchase )

I wonder if this news is something like a deal being agreed between bridcutt and Sunderland (perhaps unofficially, through back channels and totally not anything like trapping up) and that has been leaked and reported as everything being done or close to done, but the two clubs have yet to agree a fee, so as far as e Albion are concerned nothing has changed, but as soon as they do agree on a fee the deal will go through quickly.

That's how I read it.

We don't need to sell. Why would we cave-in so quickly? £4M or Gus can **** right off.

Don't the clubs have to agree first!?

It's not caving in if someone offers the correct fee.

Surely if an offer is made and it's enough to let him go then it is FAR more wise to have the money NOW and have 3 weeks to decide where to try and re-invest it?

The later in the widow you do the business, the higher the fee.

Officially, yes.

But hardly any transfer is conducted by this manner any more.

A transfer offer is now usually only made because the players agent has "suggested" to the buying club that his client would be "interested" in joining them.

Sadly, probably 99%+ of deals are technically "tapping up".

Also, it might be the best move, strategically, to cash in now, and potentially strengthen where there is a greater need.

Those widows are picky so and so's.

From Bridcutt's personal point of view:
- on the plus side:
* he gets loads more money
* he gets to play in the Premier for half a season
- on the minus side
* he's playing for a team likely to lose many more than they win
* he ends up back in the Championship next season
* he leaves the delights of Brighton, Hove and Sussex for the sh1t-hole that is Sunderland in one of the most economically deprived parts of the UK

I guess money talks the loudest.

Still don't see it happening now, if at all this window. Unless Sunderland go banzai with an offer, which they won't as they're not exactly loaded these days. And besides. A defensive midfielder is simply not the sort of player clubs break the bank for, especially not in their precarious position.

If he goes this month, it will be right at the end, when they get desperate. To sell now would suggest we already have an agreement in place, which I can't really see being the case as we're not itching to sell as far as I know.

I agree that it is early in the window to have reached a deal, does it not say the Sunderland HOPE to etc. ?That is not a done deal.

I hope , if he goes that the fee is a lot more than was previously reported , with a sale-on clause. Personally, I think he could to better than a move 300+ miles North to a club likely to be back in the Championship next year

People hoping for £5million plus are, I imagine, going to be disappointed.

Silly money on people like Zaha is largely because of their age. You are paying as much for their potential as their current ability.

Sunderland have half a season to make up 5 points to see them 4th from bottom. Too many people assuming Sunderland (and Palace) are as good as relegated. There are a number of clubs in the Premier League who are looking dreadful-Sunderland and Palace are more likely to stay up rather than be relegated.

Sunderland "hope to" reach a deal.

There are an awful lot of things I "hope to" do, doesn't mean I'll ever achieve them though.
