Bridcutt Close to Signing for Sunderland? (Sky Sports News)

I appreciate that Bridders has a very good relationship with Gus but does he really want to join a club that'll be back in the Championship next season?

Hardly a certainty they will drop, is it? There are several other poor teams down the bottom of the Premier League. Sunderland are a big club and if they stay up this season and Poyet is able to offload the deadwood that's been assembled there by the last couple of managers, they could kick on next season. Bridcutt may feel from having worked from Poyet before that he can transform Sunderland and further develop his own playing career, as it was Poyet that gave him his opportunity at Brighton in the first place that earned him the plaudits.

Its one of those situations where whatever you do is wrong - experience is journeyman = may not do it, youth is inexperience = may not do it!

If he does sign and manage to do what you think then that will be more than enough
He's a good player, Gustavo likes him and knows his game...if you go down he'll be an asset if you stay up he'll be an asset...there really isn't a down side to this.

He probably could and to be honest I dont think its a great singing for Sunderland given the position when ideally you would want players who are proven in the prem, although if the deal does go though I hope I am mistaken.

Well Liam has played very well against Prem opposition in the Cups. As he is regarded by many as possibly the best DM in the Championship, then should you get relegated you will then have possibly the best DM in the Championship.
Now he could prove very good, which means you could sell him on if you drop, for a profit. Either way, you should get a good deal.

Always felt £3million or thereabouts would be enough for us to sell.

If, as looks increasingly likely, he goes, I hope he has a good career. Been consistently one of our top performers.

I think he is worth at least £4M. I would be very disappointed if he went for less.

I'll bow to your superior football finance knowledge but aren't capital investment costs (eg stadium building and subsequent depreciation) exempt from FFP; besides a separate company owns the Amex anyway doesn't it?

Also, I'd have hoped that the current management set-up would've offered contracts to the above players that wouldn't require others to be sold to meet the FFP requirements.

Rhink you are comfortably ahead of el pres in the understanding stakes tbf.

Not a certainty but highly likely. I'd like to think Bridders would wait until the summer before taking the plunge. Wishful thinking maybe.

Wont the sale of Bridcut (if true) go straight in to the books as if we had ALL the money even if we do actually get it in instalments and guarantee we meet FFP and avoid penalties including a wage a transfer embargo?

2 wins for Sunderland and they'd be out of the drop zone, it's not like they are hopelessly marooned. I think a lot depends on the business those sides at the bottom do this month. In Sunderland's case, someone who can score some goals wouldn't go amiss.

Losing at home to Villa was one almighty cock up, if I was a SAFC fan that game was far more important to win than any cup game.

No chance when I am old talking to my grand children do I tell them about the year we scraped into 4th from bottom in the prem or the year I was there for a cup final win?

Sunderland will avoid the drop purely because of Mr. Gustavo Poyet esq. Bridcutt will storm the prem and will make the difference between chunderland and the other no hopers in the relegation mini league.

Hell go, well go up.. Everyone's a winner.

He will leave us, set the Prem alight, score 10 goals from now till the end of the season and SUnderland will end 12th with the FA Cup as well...

I cannot understand how people can compare the potential of Ince to the proven ability of Bridcutt. He will be a tremendous loss to us on the field, with nobody to take over from him at the moment, possibly in a few months but not for the immediate future to help us get promoted this season. I am sure that he will be a resounding success for Sunderland but havng said all of that DM do not go for high fees so £3m would represent good business on our original investment.

Correct, what do Brighton fans tell theirs about 1983 when we got to Wembley and should have beaten Man Utd or we got relegated from Div 1.
