I went shopping at Aldi on Thursday 29th November in Bexhill, as it was offer day the car park was rammed, so I drove straight round and out. I returned early afternoon and purchased my items.
I have now just received a parking charge notice in the post informing me I am fined £70.00 or reduced to £40.00 if paid within 28 days. My time in the shop is usually on a very short while, as I am an oap and have recently been widowed my purchases are not large. They have taken the photo of my first visit and the photo of me leaving on the second visit. I have spoken to the deputy manager who says "Its nothing to do with us it is a separate company"

Any suggestions or do I just pay up and get mugged for forty quid?

Just pay up for overstaying.

A few others will be along shortly to offer alternative advice.
Top tip, put parking charges in the title to alert them.

Don't pay up. Their photographic evidence cannot be consistent or continuous and therefore unenforcable. Stand your ground.

Dont pay. ignore the letter and any subsequent follow ups. they may get more threatening but they are talking crap and have no legal basis.

If the camera caught you on the way in the first time, it will have caught you on the way in the second time. Ditto for both times on the way out. Find out who runs the car park (the local Council?) and write to them telling them what happened and point out the 4 pieces of photographic evidence they should have in their system. Include a photocopy of the Aldi receipt, which will provide the time you finished shopping, and the number of items you bought, showing you are a legitimate shopper. If you have any other evidence to prove you did not remain in the car park the first time, then produce that as well as back-up. Good luck!

Ignore it - they have no legal right to charge you.

Just pay up for overstaying.

Don't ignore the first letter. Write back setting out the facts; if you receive another, reply referring them to a copy of the first which you enclose. Anything further should be ignored.

Probably best advice. They are NOT legal and there is nothing they can do about it. Write back stating your case but also stating the fine (It is in fact not a fine but an invoice) is ILLEGAL and you will NOT be replying to any other letters.
All this is presuming it was an Aldi owned car park.

How convenient that they have failed to retrieve evidence of you leaving the first time and entering the second, you would think they must have this.

Often visit there so thanks for sharing the info, hope you manage to get them off your back, sounds like a scam.
