On the way home from Derby - not good enough

Some people lack objectivity. He wasn't dire at Millwall, which was only three games ago. Yesterday in the 90th minute he did a 50 yard run to track back and tackle.

If you can find better value for £60,000 than Barnes then for heaven's sake let the club know.

Agreed.

I dont think anyone could argue with that. For £60k he's decent, but were at a different level now where players who were good in league 1 for £60k dont appear good enough for the top of the championship wanting premier league football. Id love to see Barnes scoring 20-30 goals a season in this league, be sure about that, but from what ive seen over the last 2 seasons, IMO it doesn't seem likely. Some people will agree, some wont - Its just my opinion.

Footballs a harsh business for players and mangers alike. If they dont perform theyre gone! its as easy as that.

i thought we played well. Majority of the possession away from home resticted Derby to first shot on goal 73 minutes missed several good chances. All in all a very good away performance in all areas. I drove home happy.

No better or worse than most of the team.

He gave the ball away 3 times at the very end of the game yesterday and put us under unnecessary pressure. I thought he was poor,
but then I'm not a fan of his.

Does anyone rate Orlandi yet btw ?
Dobbie showed some good signs though.

I think Dobbie is okay, and it would be a big shame and short-sighted if he got abuse because fans are frustrated with Gus's set-up and formation.

We are at times playing the Spain-stylee 4-6-0, but they have Iniesta, Xabi, Alonso, Fabregas...we just aren't good enough to do that.

I got a bit of criticism on here after the Birmingham game for suggesting we were doing that, with Hammond as the most advanced with Dobbie floating around doing what he likes to do as a supporting act. Naturally, the theory was rebuffed by a few but it was pretty obvious that's what we were doing. And it sounded like, from what the commentators yesterday were saying, that when Hammond came on we gave that a go again with Barnes out left, Lopez out right and Dobbie playing off Hammond. Which is NEVER going to work at this level.

But saying that, if Hammond and Dobbie hadn't been in the way, Greer would have scored and we'd probably have won 1-0. We're never going to score a lot of goals in that sort of system, but we shouldn't concede too many. If we won every game from now until the end of the season 1-0, I'd be pretty pleased with that! I'd like the performances to go with the wins too, but the result is what matters most.

Not good enough sums it up for me. 2 points from the last 9 is not good enough. What's more, the teams we have failed to beat are shite. Brum & Ipswich both lost again. They are really poor teams that everyone else beats.
Derby are no better. How can we be satisfied with performances like this if we have any hopes of getting in the top 6. Sure, we outplayed them all ( although had it not been for Kusack we'd been 3 down v Ipswich before Buckley scored) but the game is all about scoring goals and we simply do not have enough attacking options or strength up front to deliver. We're stronger at the back, Bruno, Bridge and Kuz are fantastic assets but all last season we all knew we were weak up front and nothing has been done to rectify this. Gus has to recognise this and do something about it or we'll all end up feeling frustrated again by our inability to control matches yet not secure the 3 points.

Was a bit disappointed with Lopez to be honest; I thought that the chance he spooned over the bar was a very poor finish to what was our best attacking move of the match. Having said that, we were ok - not half as bad as some have suggested - and apart from the 2 long shots in the second half, they didn't force a real save from TK. Has it been mentioned that their 'keeper was the Man of the Match?

Seriously. You have either supported Brighton for one year or you are talking utter shit. So it was worse than three entire seasons as we got relegated under Jimmy Case, then nearly got relegated to the conference, or game after game of defeats under Micky Adams mk2 and Russell Slade? Do you remember the season we finished 23rd in dIv 3 and only stayed up because Doncaster won about one game? Why do our fans talk utter shit?

I think the context is that we didn't play very well considering the abilities of those playing. We've played terrible in the past but that was down to having mediocre players trying to do their best.

Yeah, you're right, and it was a fantastic save from our header from the corner that lead to that chance.

Now i have seen the chance again - actually Greer wasn't better placed, and got in Hammond's way (nearly took him out) - if Greer had left it Hammond would have nailed it so what the hell he was doing shouting at him was anyone's guess.

I've supported the Albion since 2006 so obviously I haven't seen any games under Jimmy Case, hence why I said "one of the worst I have ever seen". I also didn't say we played ridiculously badly, I just said that the 1st half was one of the worst I have ever seen which is a reflection on the lack of quality from both sides. Not talking utter shite at all.

How many games have you been too in those 6 years ?

Hard to say. Didn't have a season ticket at Withdean but still went to almost every home game (league and cup), go to maybe 5/6 away games a year and have a season ticket at The Amex. So a lot.

Ok, just a little surprised that you thought that was the worst of the 6 years.

Didn't say it was the worst. Said it was one of the worst 1st halfs, as in quality of football, i'd ever seen. Not Albion specific games, just in general.

Crikey mate you have been lucky if a draw at Derby County is a bad performance. Having watched Albion in every division from the top flight to to the lowest division I can point to years and years of dire performances week in week out. So to make the point then get the video of the Hereford game. Just look at the standard of football, we really were dreadful.. and that was a vast improvement from when Jimmy Case was manager. i will also give you some random games when the team failed to turn up like a disgraceful 4-0 drubbing at Readings Elm Park many a year ago.

It's weird, you bring a little perspective by clarifying "one of the worst" rather than "the worst", but then go and open it up to non-albion games as well.

To me it just appears that the squad hasn't got the strength in depth to cover wings or up front but we seem to have an abundance of midfielders
