Brighton fans - I'm starting to hate them

the same has happened at most clubs - it's more a middle class play thing now, football...where as teams mainly used to be supported by the local kids off of the local estates, now it's suburban simons coming in from the suburbs with their scarfs and shiney shirts and crap songs. that has affected the culture of football. sky sports and ticket prices are what's changed it. nothing against middle class fans at all, but the "romanticising" of how football used to be "before all these idiots showed up" is really harking back to a time when it was a working mans game.

Under your skin.
I think the main problem is people can't win.

People moan about the quantity of songs - people make new songs.

People moan about new songs - people are put off singing.

People are put off singing - people moan about the drop in atmospere.

People Moan about the drop in atmosphere - people sing the old songs as they're not going to take the hassle that comes with new songs.

People sing the old songs as they're not going to take the hassle that comes with new songs. - people moan about the songs people are singing.

Yes, a LOT of what was sung yesterday was cringey. West Ham songs being the worst, but it's a hell of a lot better than silence. People moan about the NSK but not only are they trying to get the singing of GOSBTS back go the correct pace, they're also coming up with supportve songs for a lot of players.

From the starting XI -

Casper has a song, which was sung yesterday.

Calderon has a song, which was sung yesterday.

Dunk had a OGH style song which was sung a couple of times.

Greer doesn't

Painter doesn't.

Nooney now has two, which were both sung yesterday.

Harley has a song, which was sung yesterday

Bridds/Sparrow don't.

CMS has a song, which was sung yesterday.

Hoskins has played twice... He'll get a song.

I'm guessing NSK started most, if not all of them. Yet some people on here snipe away at them, moaning, and trying to ridicule them for what they do.

If you can do a better job then those guys, I'd like to hear it, until then, back them and if you have such s problem with the cringey songs, join in the supportive ones.

On the whole person who was banned/fined, he is a regular poster on here. Would be interesting to hear his side of the story, 'cos he bleeds Blue and White, and he doesn't deserved to be victimised because of one drunken mistake.

I like that one.

BTW - where in the name of Keith Chegwin's flaccid cock did 'we pay your benefits' spring from?

You must have been near us. What did you think of the pissed up lads to our side shouting "f***ing useless c**t" at every player on the pitch?

I don't understand it. It is odd. If they are Brighton fans, why do they want to abuse the Brighton players? If they want to abuse football players, then surely the Millwall ones should be the ones they would want to abuse? It doesn't make sense.

What was even more embarressing to me at least last night was sight of (and this is a presumption here) FATHERS and SONS standing next to each other giving the Millwall fans some serious foul mouthed abuse.

I'm not sure that even now at the age of 48 I'd have the nerve to stand next to my father and shout "You're just a f@@@King c*%$£$t at someone, no matter how far away they were.

Didn't seem to worry the spotty herbert two rows in front of me, or his dad as they both chanted abuse at the wall fans and gave them the finger.................................................................

what complete and utter nonsense this is. what relevance has has social housing and suburbia got to this debate? none

Good opening post and good, measured discussion. Am I really on NSC?

It's like this when I'm in charge of the thread, boss.

Anyway, I think there has been a degree of unwarranted arrogance to the Albion away support, as a group, for a while now. I think it probably emerged from our days in League 2 where, relative to most, we traveled in significant numbers. Nearly every away game would see these old favourites like these trotted out regularly...

"Shit ground, no fans..."
"Worst support we've ever seen..."

Now, we are no bigger than a medium-sized fish splashing around the Championship pond. Many, many clubs in this division travel in bigger number, especially for non-local games. The fans of many of these clubs are also on a different level when it comes to any rough and tumble outside the ground. A number of Albion fans haven't realised this yet.

I think you're right, especially about the whole step up to the Championship thing. A lot of these kids weren't old enough to go away the last time we were in the Championship, and they don't seem to realise that things are different now. They will soon enough though, I suppose.

i for one am not directing my comments towards the NSK - the NSK are the solution to this problem in my book. please please keep doing what your doing NSK and hopefully your songs will prevail over the numpty club's

I've only read the OP of this thread, but completely, wholeheartedly agree.

I am astounded by the utter thickness of some fans who have been around me at games this season. It's not just there general acting like 14 yr old chavs thing, but the pure lack of footballing knowledge which I find so hard to accept. Maybe because I am in my mid 20's now and been travelling away for 10 years or so I just can't remember, but I am pretty sure we never had such a large group of dicks coming to away games, trying to act all hard and just generally shouting out the most retarded comments you could hear at a football match.

It was a good turnout last night and should have been a win for the Albion but I totally agree with the OP - we have a load of chavvy Oicks following us these days who can't hold their beer, don't know the words to GOSBTS, dont have an ounce of wit to come up with something original of their own, think its big to abuse not only their counterparts but also families, chuck bottles at our own fans and too quickly turn on our own players rather than show some class, dig deep and show what true fans are made of.....a bit more support for their team from them last night and we might have had a better result.

When I think back to away games in the 70's and 80's especially at Selhurst, the Old Den, Upton Park etc there was far less segregation, often proper tension in the air and if anything kicked off it wouldnt be handbags like these days but a right good old ruck. In between there was good witty banter from the Albion fans rather than crude abuse that any plonker with half a brain can spout forth. These Oicks wouldn't have lasted two minutes back then.

I am sure these prats will be giving it large against the Hammers next week. Don't want to see anyone get hurt but might do these Oicks some good to get a pasting when they eventually run into someone happy to put them in their place.

unlikely. but feel free to give it a go

ask anyone what atmospheres used to be like compared to today at places like chelsea, man united, liverpool, arsenal, etc, etc before local, working class people were priced out of the game by extortionate ticket prices. the game has changed, and class has a big thing to do with it. leeds can still put on a show of incredible atmosphere that no "ultra" group or souless plastic club could put on - because they have a largely unchanged fan base. as i say, nothing against anyone who follows football today, but as the football fan has changed, so has the atmosphere.

Totally agree. Some of the stuff people come out with these days is just unbelievable, it's like they've never played the game before.

mate you sound like a character from the league of gentlemen with your wooly views on 'local football for local people'. if you trying to say that people on low incomes have been priced out of football then we are in agreement. however that has nothing to do with modern football culture... are your lot now all soulless plastic types (to use your language) as i heard some complete and utter drivel from millwall fans last night, including one particularly lovely number about hiv/aids.
