And there's me thinking some painkiller solved all his problems...! Or was that just another 'money making exercise'...?

You are just being sarcastic for the sake of it. No point discussing an issue when people mix emotion with facts.

I do think he could be on a sabotage mission up at the Big Caravan, and he may come back to us after he's seen the Nigels down into the third tier

Murray was great for us when 'his head was in the right place' then he could be unplayable, the trouble was attitude affects everything. For him it was all about ME and now we're a TEAM who play for each other and Murray just would not fit in any more...he's moved on, we've moved on and it's better for everyone!

If his attitude were okay :)rolleyes:) I'd take him back like a shot.

Of course CMS is a better player, but the two together would be superb.

If his attitude had been OK, it's possible he'd still be here because the club might well have paid his wage demands.
This.

Although if Gus thought CMS and Murray together would have been 'superb' I imagine that might would have benn enough for Gus to keep him, despite the attitude problem. The facts are:
1) despite his attitude, Gus did at least offer him a contract, so would have been ok with him staying
2) Gus was willing to spend less on Murray than he was on CMS and Hoskins, so while Murray could have been part of the squad, Gus didn't think enough of him.
3) Gus knows more about his ability and mood than any of us

So yes, Murray was great for us last season and helped us win the league (can't say we wouldn't have got promoted without him, because without him we'd have brought someone else in), but he wasn't worth the money to keep him.

Fair enough.....but football is very much about emotions. Facts, sometimes get in the way.

FACTS; Glenn Murray did very well last season and his goals/performances helped us get promotion. On his day, is a very skilful player. Unknown ability to succeed in the Championship.

EMOTIONS; Moody bugger. Never seemed happy at the Albion. Not the first player whose marriage went belly up...but dealt with it badly (IMO). He enjoyed his 'slap in the face' to Brighton supporters at Brentford, which left its mark. Gone to Palace for a little more money.....but seems to prefer living in Brighton. Poor choice when his career is short, but his living time down here could be long. If we didn't have Murray last season, I believe TB would have made funds available for an equally good replacement.

SUMMARY; Wish him no harm whatsoever...he did what he did. As a player (last season) very good. As a person......not keen on him at all.

Going to Palace saw him having a better chance of playing in their 1st team , staying here meant being 3rd or possibly 4th choice striker and having to graft to get a deal after 2 years were up.

I have no axe to grind with the guy, disappointed he and Gus couldn't sort something out. I wonder, given his rather moody character if he is starting to regret this move. Sure the money is good but unless he turns in some top class performances I imagine the Palace fans will start to turn on him. We know he gets arsey when this happens so a slow start could see this whole move turn into a disaster. From a Palace perspective that would be hilarious but I'd feel sorry for Glenn tbh.

Murray was a genius at times with the ball and was my favourite player. It is a shame he left but it is just a job, and I don't begrudge him for taking a pay rise.

I agree that statistics can prove about anything.

FACTS; Glenn Murray did very well last season and his goals/performances helped us get promotion. On his day, is a very skilful player. Unknown ability to succeed in the Championship.

Agreed, you could say the same about Greer, Calderon and most of our squad though in terms of Championship pedigree.

EMOTIONS; Moody bugger. Never seemed happy at the Albion.
He got off to a bad start, Wilkins and he never saw eye to eye, they are both introverted characters. Wilkins also resented Murray being signed by Barry Lloyd and having no input in the decision. His first transfer request came within a few months of signing for the club as a result of this personality issue.

Not the first player whose marriage went belly up...but dealt with it badly (IMO).
I don't know enough of the details, his wife did not like it down here, and that was the root of the problem.

He enjoyed his 'slap in the face' to Brighton supporters at Brentford, which left its mark.
I thought our fans were hypocritical wankers at that game. Gave his stick about his marriage during the match and then expected him to clap them at the end of it. Personally I would have done the same as him.

Gone to Palace for a little more money

As I have said before, the issue was the contract length, if you think a guaranteed half a million quid is a 'little more money' then you clearly are in a better paid job than me.

.....but seems to prefer living in Brighton.

Can't blame him for prefering to live here than there personally.

Poor choice when his career is short, but his living time down here could be long.

I am not sure what point you are making there.

If we didn't have Murray last season, I believe TB would have made funds available for an equally good replacement.
In theory he did, and he was called Liam Dickinson, who was originally signed as Murray's replacement when he put in a transfer request under Slade.

SUMMARY; Wish him no harm whatsoever...he did what he did. As a player (last season) very good. As a person......not keen on him at all.

Fairly sure that he would be second choice if he'd stayed... CMS #1, Hoskins #3 and Barnes #4.

Hosky was signed to fight to be 2nd choice striker with Barnesy , so the pecking order would have ended up (1) CMS (2/3) Hoskins (2/3) Barnes (4) Murray

Good Lord a sensible, intelligent post on NSC. Whatever next

He is still a quality player though. Admittedly Poyet seemed to bring the best out of him last season, but he certainly has bags of skill and wouldn't look out of place in most championship sides. I for one won't forget the huge contribution he made last season, both in attack and defending.

He'll either bounce back from this injury and be a decent striker for palace, just not sure their style of play will suit him that much. I still think he'd have a lot to give in our current side as he can simply make a goal out of nothing if he's in that frame of mind. Which is the crucial thing with Glenn, will Freedman be able to do what poyet did and keep him in that frame of mind.

A great player for us- at times Genius. He did have an attitude but the fans never really took to him until last season in my opinion for random reasons (not applauding fans, being lazy etc etc). In the right team he will still score goals in this league.

Who even cares about Murray anymore? He's gone. He would have made a useful addition to the side this season but Poyet's replaced him with better players. As far as I'm concerned Murray's just another footballer that will pass by in a team struggling to keep up with Poyet's genius. We're bigger and better that him these days so stop crying.

As I have said before, Murray is good when playing for a good side, however Palace are not a good side and they'll be even worse when Ambrose leaves.

Some of these comments are pathetic.

No Glenn Murray, no promotion. He was immense last season, anyone who thinks different is living in la-la land.

Absolutely spot on.Grow up you bunch.I for one wish Glen success at whatever club he plays for!
