WAY over the top in my opinion. Should've been a £50 fine. Yes, it was a stupid thing to do, but still.

What a ****.I would also make him pay for a new memorial.

Those 250 hours should be spent cutting grass, cleaning head stones etc at that site.

Just for a little bit of perspective. Two-hundred and fifty hours equals thirty-three and a third days at seven and a half hours a day.

I'm sure that most of the people slagging off the chap have, while drunk, done something which is slightly against the law.

If our soldiers weren't being slaughtered abroad in a contensious war, I expect it would have been a £150 fine or something.

However, body bags *are* being returned, and his actions were stupid, insensitive and ignorant. I think it's a bit harsh but not so much that I would campaign against the sentence in any way.

Indeed. Or a month and a half of free labour. It'll take him *ages* to finish that IMO.

NO!

He just got a bit beered up and had a piss on the street, like everyone has!!
Id doubt that he even knew where he was pissing!

I agree with Notters, give him a fine, job done!

But everywhere you look people are being stupid, insensitive and ignorant all the time. They don't have to do 2 months full time unpaid work for it.

Whereas your brilliant suggestion of a £50 fine would ensure this never happened again.

I never said it was a brilliant suggestion. I actually think an appology would've been enough and perhaps have him clean the memorial, but then I'm not easily offended by a man pisidng on the floor.

I agree he is a totally insensitive prat and deserves this sentance.

Doing it somewhere else is one thing - doing it in such an important and respectful place is another with all the symbolism that goes with it.

At the heart of this and so much more anti social behavior is a complete lack of respect. Let a few war vets and current serving marines have a word with him and teach him some respect.

I reiterate that I think it was a silly thing to do, but what is all this "symbolism" rubbish? Do you also think people burning flags should be wrong? Is speaking out against war a crime, if it involves our troops?

Edit: Not our troops, the Government's troops, they're not my troops.

Nor am I, but
a) he didn't piss on the floor, and
b) there are people who ARE easily offended by a whacky stewdent who thinks it's alright to piss on the memorials of those who gave up their lives for this country.

I think the wider issue is really whether we'll ever change our binge drinking culture as a nation, as that is clearly the main problem here as it causes no end of anti social behaviour and costs a fortune to police and administer.

(I really am going for that run now!)

I still think it's a tiny minority of people who behave stupidly when they're drunk.

Wasn't the student on a Carnage bar crawl?

If so, I believe that Carnage UK has a lot to answer for on this occasion.
