He will play 4-5-1 with Crouch as a lone striker and a midfield containing all of Lampard, Gerrard, and Beckham.

We are all overlooking the fact that the team are more capable than Mclaren of f***ing up, it's too easy to lump the blame on the manager.

The manager has to take ultimate responsibility though. He keeps picking the same players time after time, if they are not doing the jobs he wants them to then he wouldn't do that.

Until the Russia game we'd had a run of good results and played pretty well in 4 games, if we'd won or drawn the Russia game I doubt the same vitriol would be spewing out though. The players are to blame for that defeat.

No. He's paid about £3m a year to make difficult decisions. And he never makes them because he's frightened of the millionaire ponces in midfield.

We'd had a decent run of results, but without playing anyone really that good. Israel are really a very average side, Russia are decent, well drilled and well managed, but not greatly talented and have never travelled well. They froze at Wembley imo. There were also the friendly games against very understrength Brazil and Germany sides in which he were poor.

McClaren has taken us backwards, he is out of his depth. The fact that we are still able to qualify is despite him rather than because of him!

With Hargreaves holding, I personally think that is currently the best option. Theres no point playing Defoe he very rarely adds to the party..

By not realising that playing Ashley Young up with Crouch is his best option at the moment.

Russia didn’t really deserve to lose 3-0 either, that very dodgy disallowed goal could have changed the game.

I agree Defoe is quite pointless but playing Crouch up front on his own makes little sense, if you're playing one up front he needs to be mobile which Crouch obviously isn't.

Also in a 4-5-1 your wide players need to push up high and support the striker, Beckham doesn't do that really.

Much how I dont rate Defoe at the moment he has not really been give a go recently, Yes he came on on Friday - but he played up front on his own for most the time he was on.

Play him alongside Crouch from the start and he could do a job.

Defoe plays for Defoe. Not ideal in a team game.

So why don't they play capably then? Who's to blame for that? Thats why I blame Maclaren and Sven and the FA - soemthings wrong with selection and training when your top players far outshine themselves regularly on weekends for their clubs instead of their country. There are some Premiership Manager who are to blame for helping ensure that some players know that their club games are more important. THis isn't just MacLarens problem, its been in the system for a few years now.

Looks like he's dropped Beckham, so a move in the right direction imo although loads of ammunition for the over the hill maestro's fans if the team do f*** up.

I think he is still worth a place in the squad and can be usefull in certain games coming on from bench but i dont think he should start.

Seeing this is a crucial game I tend to think you could have a point, but please can we dispense with him for good after this game regardless of the outcome, we really need to build for the future.

This should be his swansong if he does get on the pitch, and a chance to say adios after a fine career.
