The whole thing over the last couple days have seen media driven arrogance and near hysteria. For example, which Orders and Honours await Wiegman and the team as WC winners. Way beyond optimism from punters.

It’s cringeworthy. Exactly the same as when mens teams progress through tournaments.

Little wonder the Celtic nations love it when we crash out.
this, all day long.

Agree with that. All media driven.
The team have called for none of this. They just went out and played.

What did this poster say? :lolol:
Oh it's just a general level of disdain that I don't have much time for.

Not liking something is fine, there's lots of things I dislike, but for some people the mere existence of women who want to play football seems like a personal affront.

All that said - the sensationalism in the media has been a bit much, though nothing different to when the men's team bumble their way into a quarter final.

Quite enjoyed that, the best team won…..but what a bunch of shitehousers!
Really? Thought it was poor on our part. Spain were really good at killing the game, and appeared technically better.

Mentioned on another thread, Australia and China apart, we haven’t played well, though we have had significant injury issues.

Yes, this is it really.

Having invested so much into the English women's game, especially with regards to live broadcasting of WSL matches, the Women's Football Show and proliferation of articles on the website, BBC Sport were always going to be gung-ho about this.

But as much as the likes of Alex Scott talking about this being just the beginning, it's more likely the end of this stage of the game's development with the Euros glory a year old and the WC dream denied at the last.

Tournament support will always be high for England teams, but the rubber will hit the road in a few weeks time when it comes to how many more people are going through the WSL and Women's Championship turnstiles week-in, week-out.

I hope there'll be a significant increase. Time will tell.

It might have been different with 4 at the back and Kelly, James in for Daly, Toone. But that's hindsight. With Mead and Williamson we are a much better side, and we missed those players in this match. But credit to Spain - they had loads of players missing too.
I thought Daly was the best England Player in the first half, was surprised to see her come off.
Bronze and Toone were very poor.

Can we finally ban “it’s coming home now”
Sick of hearing it and not seeing the bloody thing come home.
The footballs coming home was purely to do with us hosting a tournament - I don’t like the modern take that it means winning a tournament etc so I’m with you!

Yeah but you are incapable of enjoying a game we don’t win! :lolol:

Better team won, but the time wasting at the end and pretending to be injured was bollocks.
Getting like the mens teams.

This tournament proved that the Euros was no fluke and has cemented England's standing as a powerhouse of the women's game. As a nation we should be proud of that achievment. The Lionesses have an identity, they are positive and likeable - all things that the men's team could do with improving.
