Ultimately, if you don't work the ball into positions to take a shot, and then actually shoot, then you aren't going to win the football match.

Spain had a really good shape, and broke with purpose. Mary Earps kept England in the game with several good stops.

The better team won, no shame in that.

... and yes, the ref was a bit crap, certainly should have spotted the foul on James on the edge of the area for starters.

The better side won. England never created enough. And without Earps, the defeat would've been heavier.

England had relied on other things to make the Final - Haitian finishing, Nigerian penalty-taking, Colombian goalkeeping.

But Spain were never going to make those sort of mistakes having outplayed England last year at the Amex in the Euros.

On the BBC pre-match coverage today, it took 28 minutes for them to properly mention the opposition.

Clearly there's a home market to appeal to, but it smacked of arrogance to me at least.

Absolutely.

Didn’t turn up today unfortunately. Bottled it.

I've not watched any games, But i watched 30 mins of the second half. I know people for some unknown reason get protective of women's football.
But I wished I hadn't bothered. Neither side could string a handful of passes together, They were dropping to the ground like they had been shot after heading the ball.

Hoofing the ball into Areas where the wasnt even a teammate. 13 mins extra time because of all the ridiculous rolling around on the ground. At one point there were 5 players lying on the ground. Worst football i've seen in years.

Spain bossed the game from start to finish.

England were very naive, either holding on too long to the ball, or hoofing it aimlessly.
Bad decision making all over the place.

Hugely disappointed, but it would have been an absolute travesty if England had got back into the game.

Did Rach Daly get a knock? Sarina losing all that attacking threat (goals) at half time. Mind you Chloe Kelly played well. Spain did a job on England and pulverised Walsh & Stanway.

I'm delighted they lost, saves us having to hear a load of boll*x about them 'bringing it home' and comparisons to 1966 and hearing them go on about 'equal pay' when in reality the men's game generates far more money than women's football so they deservedly get paid more.

The 13 minutes wasn't for ridiculous rolling around.
Farcical VAR delay and serious injury to Greenwood accounted for 90% of the extra time.
It probably should have been 15 minutes if the timewasting had been properly applied.

Don't forget the ridiculous media circus surrounding them, Like they should have a brass statue at wembley.

Well don’t f***ing watch it! I watched most of the tournament and the standard is getting much better. Not surprising really when investment and professionalism is being poured into a sport banned by OUR football association for 50 years. FFS!!

It might have been different with 4 at the back and Kelly, James in for Daly, Toone. But that's hindsight. With Mead and Williamson we are a much better side, and we missed those players in this match. But credit to Spain - they had loads of players missing too.

Doesn't change the farcical way they played football.

She was allegedly a genius until today.
Well, my point exactly. I think she’s been brilliant for the women’s team as her record shows and is clearly no mug - she has the Pro Licence. That doesn’t mean she can automatically be considered on a par with the best coaches in the men’s game as it’s the vogue to suggest (not that Southgate is really one of those). It’s a world apart tactically at this point.

I see no reason why a woman can’t be a top, top coach. It will be interesting to see it happen. Its just the ill-founded comparisons that irk me.
