From a non Brighton supporting perspective I will be interested to see how caciedo does at a big club. That's the true test. Cuccu and biss are interesting case studies. Ajax have also sold amazing youngsters for insane money and most have never lived up to the hype as well.

Agree - that's the acid test. Biss and Cucurella looked outstanding in our system but have struggled to kick on. I think, unfortunately, MacAllister will be outstanding for Liverpool who have a shot at top 4 this coming season. Trossard is exactly where I said he'd be - warming the bench until they get fed up with Martinelli. Then you have a player like Dan Burn who was much criticised on here, including by me, who was a regular in a team that won Champions League football last season!

Maybe I was harsh on him. I was referring to him saying he wouldn't leave unless he could start. Once Jesus was back to full fitness he was always on the bench. Decent squad player for a team finishing 2nd in the league and qualifying for the Champions League though, which is far better than Biss / Cucurella.

I couldn't be arsed to spend more than 30 seconds researching that, but he started three of their final five Premier League games last season, including the last two, and came on as a sub in the other two.

Bissouma went into Conte's basket case Spurs where many players may have struggled. To compound that he got injured.

I had a quick look at how he'd started pre-season with them, and found their fans absolutely raving about him, and they see him as a key man in their starting eleven this year.

I think anyone who writes him off based on last season (I'm not saying you are, but plenty of Albion fans have labeled his move to Spurs a failure) is going a bit too soon.

Compare that with last season’s midfield, who had 2,000 appearances and included two World Cup winners, seven Champions League winners, three Europa League champions, four Premier League title-holders and one La Liga winner. Rejuvenation and regeneration were necessary, but these remain uncertain times at Chelsea and the lack of experience and leaders is clear. The entire squad has an average age of 21.​

Yep, it's like I said earlier in this thread, Chelsea have been totally naive. They got rid of all of their midfielders before they had their replacements leaving them in a really weak negotiating position and now a bit desperate. The complete opposite to how a well run club like ours operate, they're clueless.

Yeah, fair point. I think at the time I was surprised he went to Spurs because he's not a Conte player in any way. Let's see how he does this season.

Cucurella, on the other hand, has been an unmitigated flop, and that from a position where he was our POTS, inspired a wig-wearing frenzy away at Leeds and was seemingly able to play LWB. LCB, score, kiss the badge and cry all at the same time. And for much of the season Cucurella had the same coach!

What they have in common is that they went to big clubs who had a dreadful season with them in the squad. Had they stayed they'd have been better off in footballing terms, but obviously worse off for money. Maybe, to circle back to the main point of the thread, all Caicedo does care about is the money, because otherwise, even with Poch as a head coach, Chelsea is an odd choice footballing wise. Despite the presence of Paul Winstanley there's almost zero squad strategy. They lurch from transfer to transfer like an alcoholic in a town full of Weatherspoons.

They might have said that, but they'll come crawling back with that £100m cheque eventually.

Caicedo, given his youth, has a higher ceiling, but right now (in strictly football, rather than financial terms) I'd happily swap them. I ADORED watching Bissouma at his best. Absolute class.

I think Caicedo is already better tbh (overall, maybe not defensively) - but agree completely that Bissouma was fantastic.
Caicedo and Bissouma played six games together for us, five wins and one draw and only conceding one goal when they were both playing. Unlikely we'll see that level of defensive solidity again.

It's not a coincidence that the two who have struggled most - Bissouma and Cucurella - both went to basket case clubs, being run very poorly.

If Bissouma is a regular at CM under ol Postie this season, I see him doing very well.

Yes, and in his first season with us he struggled a bit.
Perhaps he’s someone who needs to feel comfortable in a new environment initially.
