Besides which, ChatGPT is a wanker. I asked it about the arguments for and against us qualifying for the European Cup and it said…

“I'm sorry, I am not able to predict the future or the outcome of specific sports events. Additionally, Brighton & Hove Albion are not considered one of the top teams in England and the likelihood of them qualifying for the Champions League is considered very low.”

So I work in IT and have never heard of this until recently. It took an estate agent at a poker game on saturday to explain it to me. This really does sound like the the start of skynet (terminator reference). This estate agent said he could ask this tool/app whatever it is to write him a document on the dutch housing market in 100 words and in a certain style. Does this make any report, assignment dissitation now redundant? Some of the stuff i have heard about it is crazy. Anyone know about this? it sounds like the start of proper AI to me.. frightening.

I asked a few of my old IT colleagues about this and they just laughed and said that they were surprised at how disconnected i am from almost all news mediums for the last 3 months.

Microsoft just bought it for $10Bn, so they’ll eventually kill it like most things they buy

Damn that sounds smart. We should help Ukraine by giving it access to all NATO's military.

its not really AI in the literal hard AI sense. its a form of AI, machine learning, that take on thousands of samples, learns and reproduces something very close to appearing like human output. its not really that novel, tech reached a point where there is enough compute power to respond in real-time. it cant create, it cant offer new ideas, or offer challenging inquiry, just respond to the users questions. many responses seem structured like a uni student answering an exam question, and there are "safety features" so it wont answer controversial questions (heavy political bias alert), all pointing to limitations to just how "intelligent" this really is.

Yes, but it appears the program has been designed on a response that Paul Barber would write.

looking forward to spotting university coursework 'written' using it. Luckily I know exactly which of my students will offer the Devil's shilling. Fortunately, to misquote my old man (RIP) I do know poop from clay ???

I've already received work almost certainly written by It. My AI-dar was tingling as soon as I read it so I decided to run it through a few detectors, all of which suggested a 99% chance of AI involvement.

I may demonstrate the bot detector live in class today so as to alert the perpetrator and warn others against cheating.

Let me know how it goes.

I had an essay recently that was in English, but was quire extraordinary bollocks. I gave it a generous 15%. If that was the product of cash for AI.....then....crumbs!
