Surrounded by overrated plodders he’s average.

Always been the way in football. Only special players such as De Bruyne, Pirlo, Gazza still stand out as geniuses in any company, running games, unplayable. Foden isn’t that level.

Whilst he might be a bit unhinged these days, I still can’t believe you’ve left Le Tissier off that list WS?!

I think he’s an exceptionally talented player who is clearly not thriving in Southgate’s boring and completely ineffective football style.

Nailed it.

Having played as a defender, Southgate's natural tendency is to not lose a game rather than try to win it.

Our best crop of attacking midfielders are being wasted under his management.

The last England midfielder who naturally ran games, he had everything, especially pre the ACL and later booze.

Whilst Italy, France, Brazil churn out effortlessly great CM’ers.

Imho if De Bruyne and/or Haaland were out for the season, it’s a disaster for Citeh. Similarly David Silva before that.

Some players just have an aura of always operating on another level to everyone else.

Without Foden they’d cope fine.

I don’t think England have any player like that in any position.

Gaza’s unpredictability ended up his downfall. Have to say that overall Beckham probably did more than Gazza for England.
As far as Southgate is concerned, he has had a good run but is clearly now struggling with modern tactics and their required flexibility. Weird, but maybe not surprising, that we have qualified for the World Cup and Italy haven’t. I don’t hold out much hope for World domination so am looking forward to finding out which poor mug will be next in the firing line.

Totally with you on Becks Harry. I think he’s always been totally under rated as a player because of the other stuff. One of the most special players we’ve ever produced.

The England job, as you rightly estimate, would be wrong for G-POTT.

The trick now is to select the right blend for your plan and impact-coach them.

Southgit lacks courage. Picking Slabbers and (on the bech) Shaw was lazy.

As for playing Bukayo Saka out of position, on the wrong wing, that's amateur hour. Just because his club side did it a couple of times for desperate measures....Not since Sven played Johnson on the wing have I seen such tomfoolery.

There are many outstanding young English players, some of them unlucky enough to look bang average in the England squad.

Its like buying jimi hendrix guitar and getting gareth southgate to play it through a littlewoods catalogue amp.

Bit harsh on Beckham. Yes, Gazza was streets ahead but during his era, Beckham led the team. He took every corner and free kick because he was the best at that. His goal record is from out wide, not down the middle. If your comparing records, then Gazza got 10 in 57 which is not dissimilar to Beckham's rate. Point is, neither were in the team for their goals.
