Good for City. Unproven for England.

Blame the manager or his team mates?

Not much from him tonight, but most of the time he's lightyears ahead of other 22 year olds in the game.

I think he’s an exceptionally talented player who is clearly not thriving in Southgate’s boring and completely ineffective football style.

True for so many over recent years, great when performing for their club, but pants the minute they pull on an England jersey.

Because the manager is a Palace **** who shouldn’t be anywhere near the England job. League One at best. One trick pony and a pretty useless trick too.

Surrounded by £1.4b of world class players he shines.

Surrounded by overrated plodders he’s average.

Always been the way in football. Only special players such as De Bruyne, Pirlo, Gazza still stand out as geniuses in any company, running games, unplayable. Foden isn’t that level.

Maybe, but my remark about great players not performing at anything like their best when playing for England was true long before Southgate took charge of the team.

Tonight, my pal Bob said 'if you could have any player from England's past, at their peak, in the side now, who would it be?'

I shall start a new thread I think.....

Who was the last quality England manager though? Players need a good manager to perform to their peak and we haven’t had one in decades
