Lots of stuff being said about the takeover, but in purely footballing terms the city deserves it. When you look at city, Chelsea, PSG, RB Leipzig et al the club does have a genuine football base that has never really fulfilled its potential.
I just hope for the club and football in general it doesn’t go pear shaped too quickly.

I hope the exact opposite. I hope it goes pear shaped very quickly. Absolutely shameful - certainly not exclusive to Newcastle of course - and Newcastle fans deserve no more than any other fans no matter how many or how passionate they are. They have been relatively comfortable in the PL for a few years and have spent plenty and there are 80 odd teams in the league who would love their "problems".

Not going too well currently, but more importantly hope that the "medical emergency" that caused the match interruption had a positive outcome for the fan involved

Absolutely classless fans and club. Listening to 5 Live on the way back from dropping my daughter off with grandparents and was astonished to hear the commentary team waxing lyrical about how the masses would flocking back now some decent owners were in charge. Sorry but what utter horseshit. Ashley is clearly an odious creature but let's face it, whilst he may not have had any ambition to really invest in the club but its hardly been the demise seen by many historically 'big' clubs. I thought being a fan that only gave their support during the good times was a negative thing? St James Park would be empty if they were ever relegated to League Two

Still cant get over PL accepted new owners because Saudi Government will not be running the club. How on earth can this be believed when they own 80%
There will be some panic up there if still in bottom 3 at christmas.

Not kidding, R5 interviewed reps from the Newcastle United Gay & Lesbian Supporters Association when the Saudis took-over. They were emphatically behind the acquisition … you may’ve heard these same reasons given over the last fortnight, on Geordie repeat.

1. They’ve been starved by owners for decades of the success they deserve. The 1974 FAC Final was quoted as a sliding doors moment - Liverpool won and then won the lot for decades to come, Newcastle lost and awful owners deprived the fanbase.
2. Hypocrisy from the football world. Barely ever a mention of the owners of PSG, Chelsea and Citeh.
3. They look forward to educating the owners, which they hope will alter matters in Saudi Arabia.

I think they may have made the right choice. Hear me out...

The whole of brown ale land is cock a hoop at the minute. If the LGBT 'representatives' were to enter the fray on day one, with studs showing, knee high, they would be treated with a dose of 'let's not talk this great club down' by all those with less regard for minorities (the majority of the barcode fans I suspect). So....

Yes, they can embrace the take over - but challenge them at every opportunity. Maybe it will trigger some change.....

And if not, by showing initial good faith any subsequent dismay (and there will be dismay) and outrage (and there will be outrage) and protest (and there will be protest) will have more credibility and traction.

It's called playing the long game. I'd like to think it's the same long game that Starmer is playing (with his withering band of lefties), and not the long game Blair played, where he forgot that accomodating Murdoch was a tactic, part of the strategy for change, and not the effing plan.

Yeah could be a strategic masterplan... or just opportunistic horseshit.

Most likely: the LGBT people in Newcastle dont give a shit about the LGBT people in Saudi Arabia as long as they get to watch some fancy new players, similar to eg how the kids in Newcastle wont give a shit about the kids in Yemen (starving because of Saudi actions) as long as they see James Tarkowski arriving in January.

Time will tell.

I admire your optimism.

I got the impression from the radio interview that the sexuality of the NUFC gay community was almost an irrelevance, they were just like any other supporter …. expecting trophies because they’d been cheated out of them for 50 years by inept owners, when they’re a colossal club.

Can't see much changing between now and the opening of the January window with the exception of Steve Bruce departing and a foreign manager coming in.
Be interesting to see who they sign, I really can't see the likes of Kane going to Newcastle, I'm sure the money on offer will be huge but a lot of these player's already have millions in the bank and are surely chasing medals, titles and cups and not just a big salary.
I'm not even sure a few panic buys in January will guarantee Premier survival this season.

You have raised a hypothesis.

I suspect it is likely to be falsified in the not too distant future, bonny lad.

Time and tide will tell. ???

I have recently turned over a new leaf. The cynical and confrontational old me is suspended, pending expulsion from my mind tank. I am determined to embrace the good in my fellow humans, and cut them a bit of slack. For a bit. Like....???

I'm with Swansman on this. Occam's razor innit.

In the same way that I don't think Kier Starmer is playing the the long game. He's just made some poor decisions and isn't up to the job.
Sorry.

Is far more likely the correct answer!

Yeah feel free to bounce this thread when United with Pride convince the Saudi sheikh to make Saudi Arabia LGBT friendly.

Think its more likely they'll buy (or continue to buy..?) your government and introduce a few of their ideas over there.

The point I made was that I think the Newcastle LGBTQ voice will soon change their tune if their aspirations are not met, but why not start friedndly, like? Whereas you think they will continue to drool over the Saudis come floggings, come throwings down wells and come beheadings. That;'s not my point....

I didn't say that the Saudis would change, did I? You are arguing against an open door on that

You struggle with nuance some times. The cult of Potter is a very black and white cult it seems (see what I did, there?) ???

Nice to see Saudi FC lose today.

I didn't think it was possible to dislike a team more than Man City or Chelsea but this lot have managed to surpass them.
