West Ham are looking to sell out-of-favour striker Bobby Zamora to fund a bid for a new striker - with Wigan's Jason Roberts reported to be top of their list.

Hammers boss Alan Pardew is reportedly ready to let Zamora go, only a year after his arrival from Tottenham as part of the deal that took Jermain Defoe in the opposite direction.

Londoner Roberts may consider the move to Upton Park, but West Ham may find it difficult to persuade Wigan to break up Roberts' prolific partnership with Nathan Ellington - their goals having helped propel The Latics to second spot in the Championship.

Meanwhile Pardew appears to have lost patience with 23-year-old Zamora - who has started only nine games for the club this season - and is looking to off-load the player, with Stoke rumoured to be interested.

Zamora himself blames injuries and a lack of first-team opportunities for his below-par performances.

"I don't think it is fair to gauge my performances on 10 or 15 minutes here and there but that is football," he told the London Evening Standard.

"When I am sitting on the bench or warming up I can hear everything the crowd is saying and that is a bit hard to take sometimes.

"If you are not scoring every week the supporters will get on your back. If you give a bad pass they will get on your back. It is not what you want to hear," he added.

How about asking Fatboy Slim for 500k to fund it? He gave Dick Knight 500k to keep him before.

How about a fans fund specifically for signing players. The 40 Note Fund still going strong?

a nice dream to think of Zamora with Knight upfront - but dont think we have the money to either buy him or pay his wages.....

It would be nice to think that Bobby might be prepared to take a pay cut in order to get his career back on track with us. I can't imagine West Ham would be asking much transfer wise, would they?

Daily Mirror says Coppell has bid a million for him.
I think he'd do bloody well at Reading, linking up with Sidwelll again.
To be honest I'd be surprised if he had to pay a million?

Got a link to the article in the Mirror saying that Reading are in for Zamora?

We've been linked far too many times now for me to think its all made up...

Ferdinand, Zamora, Forster, Kitson, Goater, Owusu, Morgan

:clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

I think Pardew may do all he can to stop BZ going to one of West Ham's main rivals and a club who villify him. I certainly hope I'm right anyway, I'd not be happy to see an Albion legend refind his form at a club that has pissed on us so many times

Why would Reading want another striker? They've just got Les Ferdinand for the rest of this season, I think he is the cover for Kitson.

I think we saw his best days and I don't know if he'll ever do as well as he did for us between 99 and 02 again. If he did return it would be an admission of failure on his part. He left us because he wanted to become a big-time player and he's failed to do that. It would take a lot of humility to return to Withdean and admitting that he didn't make it. I think he has almost used up the reputation that he got when he played for us.

I'd prefer to remember him for those goals against Bury and Halifax, the hat trick he got in the 7-1 win over Chester, those quick free kicks vs Forest and Reading. If he came back we'd all expect to see that kind of stuff from him again, his confidence has been so shot up I don't know if we would. If he failed here then it would just tarnish all the goodwill that we have towards him.

I reckon he could be on his way to Stoke, another step down the ladder for him. I don't know if that would be a good move for him. Stoke fans would demand instant success from him based on the (presumably) large transfer fee and his reputation and Stoke fans can be VERY harsh on their own players. Pulis tactics really wouldn't suit him, all those high balls and emphasis on running and chasing the ball down.

It's a real shame to see a player that had so much promise slipping inexorably towards mediocraty.

Can anyone think of a player apart from lawrenson and Michael Robinson who went on to better things when they left the Albion?

John Robinson maybe? gareth barry?

Dean Saunders.

Didn't we have Ian Muir and let him go on a free to Tranmere, where he scored a shit load of goals as Rovers stormed up 2 divisions?

Eric Young did alright for Wimbledon in the top flight, didn't he? Did he play when they won the 88 FA Cup?

Can't see Wigan wanting to let Roberts go anyway especially to a promotion rival(ish).
As far as Zamora goes a) he's not going to come back here so stop it, and b) Reading have a shit load of strikers so why would they need another one?
