I think this is a good move. Unfortunately we won't see the results of these changes for 15 years or so.

TheFA.com - Youth Development proposals get go-ahead

Big step forward now the FA just have to sort out the parents who stand at the side and shout nonsense during their kids games

Not just parents - there are a number of managers who could also do with calming down a little. Even in mini-soccer there are those that seem to think the kids are in the world up final every Sunday morning.

I've had a parent shout at me before, at an after school club I ran, because I put his son in goal (everyone was meant to have an equal time in goal). I genuinely wonder what goes through the heads of people likes that.

My u10 side are moving to a 9v9 format next season, and had their first practice match against another local team last night. Going to be a long summer re educating them! They'd cracked mini soccer, so are ready to move on to the next stepping stone, but it's still a big jump!

What team does he play for?

My team are staying 11 a side but our other under 10s are giving 9v9 a go in the Mid Sussex League...plus our u12 girls team are doing it also.

Good luck!

Wrong - it started a few years ago as it was trialled in Leicestershire and was a success.

The mid Sussex youth and minor league, the Sussex county women and girls league and the crowborough league are all offering 9v9 next year.

According to ssn yesterday the changes aren't compulsory until '13/14 season. Our u10 team are still 11 a side next season in seaford.

It's in the Young Elizabethan League in Nottingham. We have about 6 divisions who voted around 80:20 in favour of going to 9 v 9 early. Can't really see any negatives to it from a football development perspective. We're also looking to play two mini seasons, rather than one full season, to keep things flowing and to ensure kids get to the appropriate division quickly. Should be good.

Sounds very much the way to implement it IMO
