Your Help/Input required for study !

This is not a joke by the way:

I am currently conducting a sociological study into sexism in contemporary british society towards men and masculinity. There is plenty of evidence to suggest that since feminism and equality issues throughout the 60's and 70's the pendulum has actually swung so far that men are now perhaps the underdog.

Is there any situations you have come across in advertising, socities, the workplace, realtionships or everyday life that you feel are double standards and actually quite offensive to men ?

Serious input would be much appreciated, PM if prefered.

Actually there are things through the media that ridicule men that wouldn't be accepted if it was the other way round. However woman have had to put up with it for the last few thousand years so the table being turned wouldn't do us any harm.

And I suppose if you look at sexual harassment cases there is a difference.

You know what amuses me lately - the fact that there are more beer ads on tv these days where women appear - ie drink this beer and you'll get this woman...

I myself prefer the beer ads about sport - the 'ave it ad and the top bombing ad....

Im writing for 'Sociology today' - its a magazine for A level students, bit of extra money !

Look at the courts. Many men get a raw deal in the courts when they get divorced either by having to pay lots to their ex wife or being denied proper access to their children.

Why not do a newspaper search on this .. Bob Geldof has plenty to say on the matter.

I have always mocked people that do sociology and psychology and other ologies (bio excepted) but recently they have made me do a bit of sociology as part of my Economics course, and I am actually quite enjoying it.

Saying that, I'm still pissed off that Economics is tarred with the same brush as Media Studies at my Uni!!

This is kind of the foundation of my study. Found an article where a married guy with 2 kids found out his wife was shagging her boss. She kept the house, he moved to a small bedsit and got to see the kids 1 day a week !. Cheers for your input

Women have a lot of rights that men do not. Agree with the the post above on how women get many rights in court that men do not.

Also, I think if a women hits a man she should be hit back (awaiting people to go mad) - many women hit men knowing full well that they cannot hit back. I have only hit a man once, when he hit me first.

Women def have the better deal in the eye of the law, but I still think in employment, men are always looked upon as the greater species!

Interesting to hear your input Brightonbird, you are not alone in your feelings, I have heard a few ladies i have spoken to share the same opinion. Out of interest then, would you rather be male or female in todays world then ?

Def female - but I would like to be a man for 1 day so I could drink beer, burp, eat curry, be good on Computer games and try and eat football (please no responses about being ladies for a day).

I know a lot of girls will disagree with me, but one thing I can't stand is girls using their gender as an excuse to hit people/be girly (ie cry and use baby language) and the rest.

Although, women are very good at getting what they want!

i dont know if this is strictly true. At my old workplace they were extremley aware of not discriminating againt women for management. what actually occured is that 90% of all managers were female and very few men got their foot up the ladder.

Women are likely to leave work for long periods of time(if not permanently) to have children at some point in their careers.

This makes employing a man more attractive as they will not be soending money on them to discover they are about to leave.

In the police, army, navy and RAF force only. They are aware of the problems. Most workforces do not.

Yes I believe they have quotas they are supposed to fulfill.

Not sure how the police will achieve these after recent events though.
