Best - Fairytale of New York (obviously)

Worst - Simply having a wonderful Christmas time
Simply having a wonderful Christmas time
Simply having a wonderful Christmas time
Simply having a wonderful Christmas time
Simply having a wonderful Christmas time
Simply having a wonderful Christmas time
Simply having a wonderful Christmas time
SHUT UP.

This.
One of the lines in the lyric is "The children sing their song, they practice all year long,Ding dong, Ding dong,Ding dong, Ding dong, etc"
How stupid are these kids that they have to practice all year to learn a two word lyric!

Actually I have two favourites.

The Coventry Carol, which is sublime in its music and horrible message.

And this one, which again is not a happy song at all

Dislike them all - find them really tedious especially when offices and shops start to play them non stop even before December

I have had the Low Christmas album on CD since it was first released. This year treated myself to the vinyl gatefold which cost me just £10! Contains some cover versions and original tracks. Well worth a listen.

I really like Greg Lakes I believe in Father Christmas.
No American/German Santa Claus interloper, built around Prokofiev Troika, which, on its own has a very Christmassy feel to it
And, it is very anti-commercialism of Christmas

Glitter's song is actually one of the better ones, but, like Rolf Harris's 'Six White Boomers,' obviously won't get much airtime any more. Luckily, murderers don't seem to be subject to the same censorship as sex offenders, so we still get to listen to Spector's 'A Christmas Gift For You' which includes Darlene's song.

The vote for Gary Glitter was purely based on the musical dross of the whole thing rather than anything else. Spector was not the artist, additionally my view would not have changed had the Spector featured Teddy Bears sung it. Darlene Love's rendition is great imho, and not so much as a parking fine in sight.

Whilst I meant no criticism of your choices, I have to argue with the statement that Spector is not the artist. He might not be the named vocalist, but it is definitely his art.

Most hated would be Stay Another Day by East 17, simply because it isn't a Christmas song yet you only ever hear it at Christmas. Same could be said for Power of Love by FGTH, epic song but I don't want to hear it only at Christmas.

Christmas carols come in two styles...one for the kiddies to sing, away in a manger, little town of Bethlehem that sort of thing.....and then you have the other sort, which a lot of choirs have to sing at Christmas/ advent time. These ones like the Coventry carol or the cherry tree Carol have some lovely music but the words are really depressing with most of them predicting the child's death at Easter. Gold frankinsence and myrrh ...gold representing a royalty or King, frankinsence perfume that was sprayed around dead bodies to purify the air and myrrh which is basically embalming fluid. So the Kings who visited the child were predicting his death. It's actually a very depressing time really.
