That was the first one that sprang into my mind, it has always fascinated me ever since I was little and holidays to the West always involved the jolly old A272 past it. Does anyone know how the name was derived? Lord B knows about this sort of thing I think.

Ecmod Road in Eastbourne has always amused me. There are also a number of cul-de-sacs in Langney called Close 1, Close 2, Close 3 etc etc which you have to admire for the sheer lack of imagination.

I don't know the answer to the Slugwash Lane question, but I do know that Ecmod Road is named after the Eastbourne Corporation Motor Omnibus Department, which used to garage its buses there.

ECMOD was the world's first municipally owned bus company, btw, but it was sold to Stagecoach a few years back. The depot in now in Birch Road.
