Interested to hear Nsc'ers new look England side....?

Everyones fit... Everyones available... Who do you go for? What system would you play?

Hart

Johnson
Cahill
Jagielka
Cole

Parker
Wilshire
Gerrard

Carroll
Rooney
Young

I think he has to play 4-3-3, as they've been completely unable to look competitive in a 4-4-2. The problem is that this doesn't really bring the best out of Rooney; I'd be tempted to drop Carroll from the side I've selected and play Rooney through the middle, with either Milner or Lennon coming in for him.

I've picked this side with an eye towards looking to the future; this team would comfortably qualify for the Euros from our current position and would blood some of the next generation of England players. Looking further ahead Gerrard would come out after the Euros for someone like Henderson, and probably Parker for Rodwell. No idea who'd take the captaincy though; maybe Rooney?

Only reason Johnson & Terry are in is due to the relative international inexperience of their potential replacements.

I'd like to see Gerrard play right-back. We know Johnson isn't up to it (see Germany WC '10) and there are question marks over Richards' form and fitness. I like Gerrard's experience and his fitness, but he can give the ball away in the middle of the park.

Interesting i didn't expect anyone to have Gerrard in there team at right back. I did watch he play right back for Liverpool at the very beginning of his career and he did actually look very good there. I'm obviously the only one who has been very impressed by Martin Kelly at right back for Liverpool this season. Think he has a big future ahead of him.

Micah Richards is light years ahead of Johnson in my opinion, his form for City this year has been very good, his positional sense is also improving greatly plus hes still ridiculously young.

On top of that his airiel ability is something i would welcome in the side.

I totally agree with you Martin Kelly and Micah Richards would be both my right backs battling for the starting spot. Glenn Johnson isn't even the best English right back at Liverpool as it shows Kelly has started ahead of him when they are both fit!

I'm sure I heard Lawrenson or someone saying that Kelly fancies himself as a centre back and plays there for the reserves; he's only filling in at right back. On balance I would have Richards ahead of Glen Johnson in the England team.

If it's a World Cup Q/F vs Portugal and we're about to go into extra-time I'd rather have Gerrard at r/b than Johnson or Richards who, I'd contest, are not natural right-backs anyway.

This type of switch has been done to good effect by West Germany, who played Lothar Matthaus in attacking midfield, defensive midfield then sweeper. By moving him around the team he played over 100 caps and this helped West Germany remain fiercely competitive.

This is true. Shows what they must think of G.Johnson though for him to be 'filling' in at right back naturally being a centre half supposedly. There is also talk of Jack Rodwell being a long term centre back in the mould of Rio Ferdinand.

Id rather Gerrard was bossing our midfield thanks.
Richards is improving fast, has power, pace and great ability in the air everything you want from a defender.

Matthaus nver played full back though did he...moving back in central positions with age is a whole lot easier than moving to full back in my opinion.
Gerrard can play there but it really would be a massive waste in my opinion.

I was kind of hoping we were getting past this playing people out of position thing just to get them in the side....

Gerrard started his career as a right back and moved in to midfield because he had more of an impact on games there. Granted, his role has changed massively in the last 10 years from being a deeper lying midfielder to a second striker but now Daiglish has dropped him into a more withdrawn role once again, it'll be interesting to see how he plays there. That for me will decide if he gets back in the England team because when he stops trying to be Captain Fantastic that the pundits make him out to be, he's so much better a player.

Personally, the XI we saw on Saturday with Adam Johnson and Rio Ferdinand in for Ashley Young and Michael Dawson, is what I'd go for. Probably put Tom Huddlestone in the squad when he's fit as well.
