That reminds me of a funny story. My stepdad used to run a members club in peterborough when I was about 16, and regularly used to rinse the 250 wicker 4 reel jackpot if no-one had one big over the weekend.

One sunday after closing he got the magical 99 nudges.... nudged down the first three symbols instead of leaving a gap and nudging the forth down first..... And it started flashing 'WINNER' and paid out about 20 quid! he was gutted. I've never let him forget that story.

And don't let him forget it, that is such a schoolboy error!!!

When I was a student, living in a guest house in Kemp Town, the landlord installed an old-fashioned one armed bandit in the entrance hall. Being a mechanical machine, rather than relying on electronics, it had a tendency to fail to pay out on winning lines.

So we all felt it was nothing but another way to rip off the residents.

Eventually the thing failed completely, but in our favour. It started to play without the need to put any money in. All you had to do was pull the handle, watch the fruit spin round and wait for a payout.

Eventually, someone won the jackpot and the entire guest house trooped off to the pub to spend the proceeds.

The following day, someone complained that the machine had broken down. A stupid thing to do, since it still had some cash in it. We never saw it again.
