Cabbage and Confidence Man were stand outs for me in 2018.

Also, Snapped Ankles and the Teskey Brothers.

I met up with an old school friend recently who now lives in Australia. I hadn't seen him in 15 years or so. We got onto the subject of music over a few beers and he mentioned The Teskey Brothers to me, who I'd never heard of. Superb ... especially the first album. They are doing a few UK gigs this year and I'm going to see them in Wolverhampton. My Australian friend - who is back in Oz - is rather envious.

Idles.

Completely missed their debut, 'Brutalism', last year but heard 'Joy as an Act of Resistance' in a pub the other night and haven't stopped listening to it since.
Weirdly I was just reading this through to see who’d bounced it and, as I read this post “Colossus” came up on a randomised Spotify playlist I’ve got going while I’m cooking.

Absolutely incredible album.

A bit more up to date but my best band discovery for 2025 is this lot. Been around for a while but now getting really popular. Previously I'd made the mistake of judging a book by it's cover and I thought they were going to be some growling death metal nonsense. Some seriously catchy stuff with an almost pop feel but they still manage to feed my rock riffage taste.

2018/2019 really was a great era for music, especially British post punk, has very much morphed a bit now, but it was a fantastic scene back then.

This nudged me into looking up the Teskey Brothers again. I see they are playing Alexandra Palace Park in July with support from the excellent Jalen Ngonda. So I booked tickets. Thanks for the post as without it, I'd have missed it.
